New Mounts In

Just got my car back from the dealer. They said they didn't have the recall notice yet, but they had a TSB on the mounts. They replaced both the driver and passenger side mounts. Thinking back, I wish I had made sure that they torqued the bolts down to the new 114 ft. lbs. setting. At any rate, I hope this will resolve the issue.

i have heard by several owners that the recall only replaces the bolts ......
why did they change the whole mounts ??

I've heard some dealerships were replacing the whole mounts with something of a more sturdy model and are using a thicker bolt.

The dealer told me they didn't have the recall info yet (computer issues) and they did the process based on a TSB. The service manager told me that when he ran my VIN, the TSB only mentioned replacing one of the mounts, but he replaced both "to be safe". I will have to find the service tag and see exactly what it says.

They're only replacing the tranmission mount if the bolt wasn't torqued properly when they inspect it. It's being replaced w/ the same exact part. The only part that is actually upgraded is the bolt itself.

sounds like your service dept is confused and is replacing your side mounts with the upgraded set for the reg 3 which are probably weaker then your speed3 mounts... i would go back and verify the tsb check the tsb listing on this site or even print it out and if thats the one they performed they need to switch it back.

There's more than one mount to replace? I thought the recall was for the #4 mount only. That's what my car is getting replaced right now.

he didn't know about the recall but all they had to do was look up my VIN to see it.

if you are refering to my post your right the recall is for only the bolt and for the MS3 only. when the OP said that they replaced other mounts it made me think that they were confused and replaced the side mounts that there is a tsb for not a recall for the regular 3 not the speed model.

does that make sense?

yeah the side ones are liquid filled and if you drove it like you stole it they would rip and leak everywhere...

my dealer replaced my whole mount...dont feel much difference when i drive

Me neither.
What kind of difference would you expect to feel? I mean, only thing my car did was sputter a bit when I started it to leave the dealership, and the exhaust had a nice rumble for a few seconds, but that was it :D

You are wrong. I have spoken with my dealer after install and it is a completely different mount for the transmission. It is now two bolts with of course a different bracket.

Thats the first I heard of that and as far as I know they just replaced the driver side top mount bolt on mine.

Where would the second bolt go? They just had a tapped spot for a bolt they never used until now?

Not only that but I read the entire spread sheet sent to the dealer that is linked on the welcome page and there is nothing in the notice about the tranny mount.

It depends on your vin some cars are just getting bolts and some need new mounts, there are two seperate tsb's with different instructions depending on your vin.

Yeah but there isnt a new tranny mount with 2 bolts instead of 1 bolt. The mount they are replacing is the same stock one but only if it looks to have been damaged from a loose bolt.

Yes there is Whitey I have seen the mount and the instructions, which is 11 pages long, replaced by a totally different mount.

Is it seperate from the recall letter?

They didnt say anything about what you are saying so which people have it replaced? Does it go by VIN#?

You are the only one saying anything about this mount so I would figure you go into a bit more detail.

there is no different mount with 2 bolts. some cars get the bolt, some get the new bolt and mount and some get the bolt, mount and bracket under it. i would like to see the thing your talking about.

So would I but that is what the mech explained to me. I will take off the battery when I get the car back and confirm again since there is a few other things to be taken care of. Starting to think I should have stayed with my 04 M3. But then again, I am addicted to the power.
