Hey guys!!

Im just a 20 Year old guy from the small town of Bangor Maine, where nothing else exists. :-D Anyway, I currently own a 98 GST with about 80k on it, and a few mods including :
  • Starion FMIC
  • Tanabe Racing Medallion Cat-Back
  • Ported Exhaust Manifold
  • K&N Intake Filter and adaptor Plate
  • Autometer EGT, Boost, and A/F Gauges
  • EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads
  • And an Empty Wallet...
Anyway, Ive been in the market for something new lately, and 2 days ago I test drove a 2k3 Black Mica MP5, and fell in love. I must have one of these cars. I couldn't beleive the way this car handled. This thing will take my eclipse in the twisties. *There was a little amount of body roll in the rear end, but not too bad* Anyway, I have decided that I am going to buy one of these cars as soon as I am finished doing the timing belt and some other stuff on my car. Im going to trade it in. I just wanted to say Hi, and introduce myself. I have been reading this forum for a day or 2, and Im really impressed with the members. This board seems to have a lot less drama then most of the other boards I frequent. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. And mention [shamless plug here] that I happen to be an ADMIN on another messageboard that has a serious mazda member defficiency. Its a board just about cars and car enthusiasts. www.racingknowledge.com is the site addy, and I (we) would love if some of you stopped over, and checked it out. Anyway, I look forward to becoming an MP5 Owner, and talking much more with all of you. If your wondering about my username, its a nickname I got when I had my 86 Corolla GT-S AE86. *best car of all time* I also had a few questions that I wanted to ask some of you.

1. Where are some good places to find performance parts. Im looking mostly for I/H/E, and suspension parts since I'm planning on focusing on autoX type of events.

2. How leanient are the dealers about Modifications...especially exhaust systems.

3. Do the MP3's share the same motor and driveline as the mp5's? Are under the hood parts interchangeable?

4. Have any of you seen noticeable gains in HP from the Axle back systems as opposed to the full Cat-backs? Are there things to look out for?

5. Are there any known problems with the cars? Factory Recalls? Is there anything I should specifically look for when purchasing my mp5?

Thanks guys!!

Welcome!

Bangor? Isn't there some scary dude around there getting hit by cars? :p
Good choice on the P5! I honestly believe that it's the best cornering wagon on the road...OK, I'll take a whack at answering your questions:

1) A really good, knowledgable guy is Mitch at
http://www.protege5online.com/ I'm sure he'll be able to help you find what you need.

2) It really depends on the dealer. My guy here in Santa Cruz is cool with me, and I've got an intake, rims, and exhaust. The MP3 came from the factory with a pretty nice cat-back already in place...Racing Beat. Other than those and the Mazdaspeed axel-back, I HAVE noticed that some people are looking at GReddy set-ups.

3) Yes, they are pretty much the same engine, I do know that the P5 and MP3 have different ECU's. Also The MP3 has a valve-cover, and a different strut-tower brace. I'm sure somebody else will add to this list. ;)

4) Mazda did a pretty good job with the intake/exhaust on these cars. There's really not a ton of room for improvement. Maybe 5-10hp at the MOST.

5) Other than a few rattles and clunks, your new car should have no issues at all. It's a well built little bugger.

Hope this tiny bit of info helps!

Thanks! Your a stephen King fan too huh? LOL...thanks for the answers, im checkin out that site as I type.

hello Crolla and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)
