Just picked up a 05' sp23....got a smokin' deal and love it...a little bummed no traction control...worried about winter driving...snow and ice...I've heard of the blizzaks and alpines....just looking for some insight from someone else with a 3 and they're winter driving experience..

depending on where you live (fill out your info so it will show in your sig) you will prob need dedicated snow tires. i am in maine and suffered through last winter without, am not doing that this winter... i would buy 16" steelies and add whatever snow tire you like.

or a set of 15" or 16" mazda wheels (626, 929, probe, MX-6, protege5 or ES), which can be had as cheaply and will look better than steelies.

I like how easy everyone makes it sound to find decent wheels from a 626 or 929.... I've lost so many on ebay so far.... the local salvage yards want a fortune for them.

SHJ, if you find somewhere local, let me know. I talked to discount tire by my house and with wheels and tires it was way expensive.

just b/c they're not falling out of the sky doesn't mean they're tough to come by. there are at least 3 or 4 usable sets on eBay right now. plus there are message boards around besides this one...hey, if you want to spend $200 on a set of steelies, go for it. *shrug*

i think folks are just putting out alternatives...no one is saying it's like going to 7-11 for a bottle of coke.

The guy at Discount was forward enough that he admitted it would be cheaper to get a styled wheel from them than the steelie's. I didn't mean they should be falling from the sky, but it's not like you can go to the local 7/11 and they have them stacked outside. At least not here. I'll end up with a set. I'm only a few weeks older on here than SHJ and from a similar area. We both have a similar need right now. If I can help him out, I will, and I'm sure he'll do the same. Yes, I looked at other boards as well.

:) it took me a few weeks to find the set of MX-6 wheels i have. I lost on a few auctions as well...be patient. at least it won't be snowing for a while still. have you looked on the MX-6 board? good luck!

Never looked up the mx-6 boards. Now if this was for an F-150....I could tell you where to look. At least I still have that for the deep snow. It was quite a switch to go to the P5.
