haha iv been driving with my stock shifter for 3years now and i recently put in the kartboy shift yesterday . well today i was commin home from walmart and started swipping at my shifter and was like wtf wheres my shifter!! and than i rembered thats it a little lower now..hahahaha.. did any of you have this problem when you first installed yours?? and how big of a differance would a wieghted knob make? i like the stock knob any suggestions?

I just got the greddy counterweight knob, it'll be here wednesday. The shifter takes a little while to get all broken in (mainly if you got bushings). I still miss from time to time, makes me laugh a bit. The kartboy knob is nice, but it gets really cold in the winter, so not the best, but I like it for now. All the random thoughts I have for now.

My first mod. I could not stand the rowing action. I felt like I was in a boat. The KB shift knob is quite nice. Here's some photos.

I had the Kartboy with the TeamVoodoo knob. it definitely takes some getting used to but once you're used to it you won't wanna go back :D

but what are the socks in the cupholder for?
I was using the sock so I wouldn't burn or freeze my hand on the metal part of the knob. :)

This is exactly the setup I am going to put in my car. Did you have the Voodo in pearl or brushed aluminum?

I really wish MGW still made shift knobs for the Miata (which would fit the Protege). I had one on my Miata and it was perfect.

spun aluminum is what I had on mine... you should check with tom@kartboy for the thread pitch on the shifter and make sure it isn't the same as for the miata... TeamVoodoo is usually for miatas and it fit so you might have a chance :D

delivery_guy made it.. I LOVE it.. got my Dad one for his M-Edition Miata. :)

the shifter altspace has is nice but it looks like its metal. i houston metal knobs get really hot in the summer thats kinda why i like the stock shifter. mayby i can just get any heavy ball knob and make a custom jacket out of vynle or something. thats why having hard time finding a shifter cuase all the wieghted ballknobs iv found are all aluminum.

I complete understand how you feel reaching for a knob thats not there.

I too have the kartboy shifter in my 03' Jspec protege5, with the kartboy weighted knob, and the kartboy bushings. Thanks travis, ryan, jason, and the other white dude at Corksport, you guys f'n rock (they even adjusted all the linkange and clutch when they installed it!!

I just recently got my entire car done up at Corksport. Drove the car over, and left it there pretty much for an entire week. They have been fantastic, not only sourcing 95% of the parts for the car, but also doing the fab and install work. It has to go back next week to get the Buddy club 2 body kit fitted and mounted, then removed, taken to the paint shop, squirted, taken back across town, and remounted.

Tomorrow I am having the stereo installed, as well as the wheels and tires (I got lucky and found a set of Racing Hart Mazdaspeed 17x7's in mint conditon for $800 with tires! lol!!!!)

I don't want to list everything thats gettin done on the car here in this thread, just keep your eyes out as I'll be doing a full photo section as soon as the wheels, stereo and body kit is on in a seperate post
