i only suggested it so he can use the same can to do headlights and rear bumper

I used regular paint for my rear bumper as well. When driving wind does a pretty good job of keeping the area around the exhaust pretty cool. If you have one of those monster coffee can mufflers that only space like an 1/8" away from the bumper then you might need it.
 
gotcha. Yeah, different exhaust tip size makes a HUGE difference in how much heat goes to the bumper

shoot, different headers do the same.

With the OBX header, my exhaust tip was rubbing against the bumper, now with the Ractive header, it's futher down away than it was with the stock header

Hmmm Thats weird. Probably just push's on the exhaust a different way.
