Let me know what you think! It sounds deep yet not annoying loud, I'll try and get a video of it...

Not bad...Is that the Mazdaspeed muffler? If so, it doesn't sound as 'rice' as I expected it to...Looks really nice, though.

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

Yes this is the Mazdaspeed axle-back, specifically for the P5 from protege garage for $159.00, for the price it looks and sounds great. Though at about 70-80mph it tends to drone a little, but I've been in subie's and evo's that droned 2-or 3 times this one... I love it! Thx for the welcome!

Sounds nice!...ur right...deep but not too loud. I like it!

Exactly, that was my thing, I wanted some thing for now that had as deep a sound a u can get for a little 2.0 motor, but didn't rasp out at the top of reving! There are 3 guys around my house w/civic hatchbacks that I can hear for blocks!! that would be great to listen to all day long especially in the car...(boom07)

looks good! If they made a full catback system I would of gotten that rather than the Racing Beat cause I like that tip better

the axleback portion sounds pretty good, however i think if you put in a header its gets super drony from what ive read.

the combo of the OBX header plus the racing beat CBE gives a nice deep sound with no rasp, and little drone.
so make sure you search around for sound clips and all that before you put the header on. because you might end up with a sound you dont like.

Thx. I agree, I'll probably end up getting the racing beat later to go for the true performance...this will tide me over till money falls from the sky!

Yea I have read that and If and when I did the full exhaust I would sell this for cheaper to some one on here, and go for the racing beat setup with header, etc. It fills the spot of me being broke but wanting some nice sound and looks for a while...

We have many posts of this exhaust and it's drone effect. Personally I sold mine after a month. But if you can deal with it then more power to ya! Welcome to the club.

Yeah, I don't mind the sound, in fact because I have the sport/shift I can downshift and listen to it growl when slowing down, but if I had to drive for 2or3 hrs at 70mph the drone would get old. Also when my big Sub enclosure is in the back it tends to dampen the noise. It's an easy compromise for the price and for being able to enjoy it right now!:)

o look i got the same one too xP heh honestly i love this exhaust. idk but i get compliments about it at work all the time. just recently, a dude in a sti wanted me to rev it for him haha. yea it does drone but its not that bad on our island considering our speed limit is 60mph. btw theres a thread about the dyno of this exhaust. some1 did a dyno wit this and a sri and came to the conclusion that it actually gives about 3 hp while the sri gave about 1 hp.when i bought it, the parts manager said it'll give about 2-3 hp. so i'm thinking its a pretty good bargain considering that the racing beat gives just 1.5 more hp heh. o yea a header wit this exhaust will bleed ur ears so i'd definitely take some time and consider getting it.

heres the thread: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5655&highlight=woody+dyno
sorry but the dyno chart is gone. i guess cause the thread is too old..6 yrs old haha but read the info on it. that member, woody, did more dynos which can be found around here too. heh too bad not all the charts work.

Yeah, Dynoing mods to find out how much hp/tq they add is a tricky proposition, and usually one mod added on will always be affected by the others... For example you can say the racing beat gives you a certain amount of hp gain, then when you add a new air intake or remove VTCS they may give a slight increase, but how much of that is due to also have that better exhaust, it's really hard to say, certain mods give better potential for increasing hp later on. I think this exhaust does have a place, and that is value, look, sound, and fitment! I love it for now...

I just ordered one of these from protegegarage.com. I'm really hoping it isn't too loud to the point of pissing off my neighbors and whatnot.

I can handle a little highway droning. The P5 isn't exactly quiet on the highway in stock form anyway.

Not sure if I'm going to install it myself or take it somewhere or have a friend do it. Considering it's an axleback, it should be super simple, right? Any guides or tips for someone who is not very mechanically inclined? I've never even changed oil before!

I had my sights set on a Mazdaspeed3 but my wife talked sense into me as my P5 will be paid off in November and only has 40,000 miles on it.

Here's hoping I like the sound, get maybe 1-3 HP gain from it, and don't end up feeling like a retard as I slam the gas and make my exhaust scream as a minivan whips by me. Haha!

Install is not hard at all for the axleback. I would recommend buying a new gasket from the dealer (IIRC about $10) as you may not be able to re-use the original one. Also, depending on rusted bolts, you may have to take the car to a shop ie: Meineke to have them cut the bolts. I had to do this and it was also about $10.

i'm pretty sure u'll like it. its not really loud unless u really get on it or if u like spending ur time around 3.5k rpms or so. get compliments all the time. doesnt sound ricey and the tone is deep.

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably pick up a gasket at the dealer just to be safe. So the part is just called a "gasket"?

I don't spend much time at 3.5k rpm's. My sport auto likes to shift right at about 3,000 based on the way I drive. Sometimes I'll hold the gears longer with the tiptronic, but I'll expect the sound at those times!
