Since cost didnt seem to be a factor I definately would have chose a C2D cpu over the Pentium D

I know it's outdated already.. I should print up a purchase req for a new computer with a quad core and see if I can get my boss to sign it :D

Cost was a factor. I paid for it.

The mother boad and processor can be upgraded in a year when the Quad core is done being new..

Erdas 9.0 and Arc-Gis

Some others too but basically that's what we use daily.

Got the majority on the way from several E-Bay sellers.

The only thing I really need is a Case and a Power Supply..

Power Supply..

Got some new 19" Wide monitors yesterday.

They are hooked up to the old computer that has only one video card (Hence the same image in both)

They are 1:700 contrast at 1440x900 DPI, should be great "If" I ever get this New Computer to function. :)

Warning, If you are a GEEK, You might Faint.

So I have changed my job this year. I basically make maps now, it's awesome but the computer workload in UNREAL.

I decided to upgrade the home PC..

ASUS P5B Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel

4 GB OCZ PLATINUM DDR2 PC 800 Dual Channel

INTEL DUAL-CORE PENTIUM D 925 3.0GHZ

ATI 100-505143 FireGL V7350 1 GB Graphics Card

Dual 19" LCD On the ATI

Single 22" LCD Seperate 512 MB ATI Videocard

320 GB SATA

Nice setup but you would have done better with dual opterons. That's what I'm going for when I upgrade my server.

NICE! i used to survey for the NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation) did field surveying along with MicroStation work. DTM, Trimble, GPS, VRS, RTK. I majored in Earth Science with a concentration in Environmental Information Systems and a minor in Geography. Honestly i hated the field work and wanted a GIS job BAD (still do) but its just to damn difficult to find ( i currently work for a mortgage company as a Loan Coordinator, LOL) i am still interested in the GIS field though! Great equipment and good luck in the field!!

just curious why you went with the pentium d instead of the core 2 duo? i'm beginning to look at new comps (though mine won't be that extreme) and it seems like the core 2 processors are superior

You can buy a silly fast 775 D (3.4 Dual) for under $150.00

The Core2 are rather new and as soon as the Core4 become common, the 2 will drop alot.

We are talking a couple months to save like $500.00

You can run Core 4 on an Asus P5B Mainboard so upgrading is not a problem.
