New Computer

I WANT TURBO!!
:
1998.5 Ford Contour SVT
Alright so I dont have the money Nor do i know when i will get it. But the thought just came in and i had to post it. How much to get a re-programmed computer for the MP3?

you mean a new ems? or ecu? the mp3 ecu works well on the mp3. if your wantin to go for an aftermarket ems you should try the unichip group buy goin on right now. its a good price and unichip is a very simple plug in play ems that gives good results. but if your only lookin for results then a header is better bang for the buck. just my $.02

i'm lookin for a good mod for easy H.P upgrade and i know a decent upgrade is in the $200 or plus range.

The unichip is going to cost you...
what other mods do you have?

well a decent ems is $800-$2000 so its not exactly the most economical. a header, intake, or custom exhaust are the most economical options. i got a used awr header ill sell ya for $250. goes new for over $500

i was thinkin, intake, and a glass pack to replace the resognator just for sound and 10-15 horse. the header idea wasnt until atleast a year down the road. I'll see if i can milk my dad on the Header idea, i'm bustin out money somehow so i'll see.

damn dont put in a glass pack. if you want real cheap for hp just take out your cats and resonator and replace it with a strait pipe at any muffler shop. cost prolly under $100, give ya at least 10hp gain and a real loud sound. no cats on a n/a car will get you into plenty of races with civics. i almost did that to my mp3 just before i bought the msp. i was gonna run a header with no cats.

yeah i was thinkin of just straight up gettin rid of that but 3 reasons
1) Dont wanna sound Ricey
B) Dont want to shoot out black smoke
III) I drive a Mazda not a Honda

going back... whats the ems? How is it different from the ecu, and what functions do those chips serve?

If you apply these computer mods to a car that already has excellent headers/exhaust/intake, doesn't it raise the power something absurd?(think MSP)

would apply tuned chips murder your gas mileage? (and how badly?)

I'm not sure the Unichip would be best for a stock MP3.

And ECU is a preset non programmable (by laptop) chip. It has preset configuration to run your car.

And EMS is completely programmable and adjustible, usually on the fly. Serious knowledge of cars, your car, and the mods you have done are required.

For the money just buy an ebay cold air intake and a header. Either AWR or OBX. Those two together make major difference in how your car feels and sounds. (Sound in the cabin anyway)

so your sayin the best bet is to just put on an intake and take out the resognator and possibly put on a header compared to saving up for a Mod-Chip?

Yep. There is not good chip, that i'm aware of, for a non MSP protege.

alright, yeah i'm most definatly goin to get an intake and glass pack to take place of the resognator. the header i havent looked into that much on prices but i know i wont have the money for that for a while.

actually the opposite. the unichip shows a 5mpg better than stock msp. if you tune a ems the right way you can get even better than that. an ems is doing nothing but making your car run smoother and more properly.
