BF here

KRM P5: The focus ST and the Mazda 3 share the same basic engine with a few differences but on one you praise the powerband and the other it is just an ok engine?
you crazy guy,(crazy) the same engine in two different cars, will not feel the same at all. there are two many facters involved. IE....weight, tuning of the engines, exhaust, cams,....
the cars will not be the same even if they are on the same platforms...

anyhow... I'd go with an MSP out of all the ones you have listed..

A Scion is just another Toyota.

Remember: Similar Sire, similar Scion.

Get a 2001-2003 Protege Sedan ES.

Replace the springs so it sits nice. Get new rims and tires, use the stock rims for winter driving with some snow tires.

Replace the nose with a MP3 nose, and get the side skirts and rear skirt. Get a racing beat exhaust. You can even get a front strut tower bar. Get a kick ass stereo system.

I have this set up, and the car drives and handles " sick" dude. I've had it for 4 years with no, I say no issues.

Can't beat the handling on this car.

lol...wait that means me too...Damnit!

He test drive any of these cars on the list yet?

He's testdriven the Focus ST and SVT and the Mazda3. He's driven my car, but hasn't found a stock MSP to try yet, and still needs to drive a tC.

Tc shouldn't be that hard to find ;) Of all the Scion badged cars I'd pick the scion over the 2 101 hp degenerates... as far as toyota goes turbo supra and Is300 is all I'd touch or dream of touching...

Finding an auto tC is easy, finding a manual one is trickier. :P So far, he's found one white one and when we went to look at it on Sat., we were ignored at the dealership while the employees busily worked at parking all the cars in for the upcoming snowstorm, enssuring that we couldn't take it for a testdrive.

yep same with dodge when I showed "EXTREME" intrest in purchasing the Electric Blue SRT-4. it was 50 degrees out and they were like "Too much snow Sign the contract 1st and we'll see" ...Ok whos dumb enough to sign the contract before the test drive?...Been there done that with my 1st neon. ATX is the reason I traded it so fast!

Stock Spicy Orange w/ low mileage is a little trickier. The closest I've seen so far on the boards are in NY and TX. The one in Richmond isn't stock or low price.

compared to the 1st production Mz3 how much problems are there on a MSP?

I'll add my $.02
why get another car that you want to autocross? he already has the Miata, you have your Protege. Get a daily driver car... Get something reliable, and inexpensive. Something that takes regular fuel. Something you're not going to want to modify, that way it leaves more money for the autocross cars..

Fadi, he doesn't plan to turn it into an autox car, but at the same time he doesn't want something horrible for a daily driver. He's planning on keeping the cost under $18K new, and around $12K or less used, hopefully. He's looking at these cars because he wouldn't feel the urge to mod them. He's still deciding on the preium fuel issue.

once you start modding it is contageous...getting a kia rio or toyota echo as a daily driver won't stop you from modding it ;) Reason I bought my 6 was to stop modding my neon...and we all see where that went...

Sorry, I guess I'm too sensible about things. Heck, I'm looking to buy an 84 Olds Wagon as a daily driver so I can put (more) money in the Miada..

LoL i was looking at a intercepter project car and can't stop modding the 6 to fufill that plan I had 8 years ago!
