Sorry, I guess I'm too sensible about things. Heck, I'm looking to buy an 84 Olds Wagon as a daily driver so I can put (more) money in the Miada..

Fadi, 30 mile commute + no serious mechanics tools or training = newer car as a better choice.

Also, for now the Miata is staying in ES, might move to STS2 next year, but even so, that doesn't require the amounts of money you plan to drop on your Miada.

newer isn't always better. 1st year production anything is gonna give you issues remember me ;)

Not saying you need to get an 84, just using it as an example...

lol my point is you can refrain from modding the daily driver but for so long...you will have the urge to just put a sterering wheel cover on...then maybe seat covers. few weeks pass and you lose it...

I got the LX with no intention of modding it. I've done more to it in 4 months than I did to the Miata in 3 years! The mods on the Pro were basically "opportunity" mods. If I'd not been on the forum, in touch with folks selling stuff at a great deal, I'd not have done any of it, other than the short shifter.

If he's looking for something that doesn't requre premium fuel, but is still fun to drive in stock condition, I'd say Pro ES. Easily available for under $10K, reliable, good milage, blah blah blah.

You could get all that with a Corolla or Civic or regular Focus, other than the fun to drive, so I'd get an ES and throw in a Kartboy.

The 3 would also be a good choice. Nice driving car, overall, I just found them a bit too refined.

So, what did he think of the Mazda3? Also, is the RSX out 'cause it's a hatch or are they still too pricey. My friend Matt has an RSX-S, and DAMN, that's a sweet car! I'd guess it probably takes premium fuel, though.

Like Ghost I would like to shamelessly plug the SpecV.

good - torque monster that can run a 14.4 with i/h/e, setup for autoX, 17" wheels standard, 6-spd only, can get a decent rockford system as an option, nice interior (03+), can be had with 20k mi for less than $11k

bad - weird tranny issues on 02s (Nissan will replace with 04 tranny for free), bad interior on 02s, low redline (6200), premium fuel (but many are convinced its happier with 89), limited aftermarket (about with MSP-level), ugly ass-end, dumb spoiler

overall its an amazing car that is just a blast to drive and literally gives you ~8 whp with an intake, ~12whp with a header and it just moves from there. internals are great until about 300whp then you have to replace. Nissan build quality so you know that with the SE-R heritage its a great car :D

Mazdaspeed, no contest. If he autocrosses he will appreciate the MSPs handling and overall package that does not really need to be modded at all to be a nice car. All the other cars you listed would need modding to get to the same all around level of the MSP. It has it's "quirks" but when it came to trading in one of my cars, I cut loose the SRT-4 and kept the MSP. The price on them right now can't be beat. You can get a low mile, stock MSP for $14,000 to 15,000. That's a bargain.

Trying to answer way to many questions in one post so sorry for the long post here.

Fadi : For some reason katie does not like my idea of getting this instead
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/car/58002365.html
so I guess I have to get something newer. I am still in the decision making process here and I could change my mind like a woman before I finish anything here.

Ohhh and have you looked at this car for yourself as a daily driver?
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/car/57724460.html

Mazda3 test drive - clutch I did not like it felt to soft to me. I am not used to a real hard clutch I just dont get much feel on the mazda3 clutch. Steering felt a little strange to me. I dont like the dash layout and am not a fan of red for lighting on the dash. I dislike the stereo layout because I would want to replace it with aftermarket and it is a real pain to do anything to that so I might have to pay the extra $300 to just get the stock mp3 player for the car. The good is that it "should" get the best mileage but for some reason in the recent motortrend test the focus ST got better mileage.

Any car I got would need a few well chosen mods but most liekly not much more than my contour. I am not into bodykits or any of the looks stuff I think if the car does not look decent stock then dont get it. I am not a big fan of the looks of the stock protege. I am also not a big fan of the stock handling from the P5 (from what I can remember of stock) and I know I do not like the way it rides now. I don't think I would end up modding a daily driver much more than I ended up modding the contour when I had that (short shifter, replaced HU, drop in filter, cheap winter wheels, Exhaust)

RSX is a little pricy from what I saw. New is way out used is a possibility I might need to go test drive one sometime. I am not tossing anything out because it is a hatch I just dont know as much about hatchs because all my prior cars (parents ford taurus wagon #1, parents ford taurus wagon #2, parents mercury mystique, ford contour #1, and ford contour #2) were sedans or wagons so those are all I know about.

"opportunity" mods is one reason against any type of protege because katie is always on here and I am sure she will tell me about this great deal on X that would make the car so much better and before you know it I would be putting all the money I dont need to be putting into it into it.

I am still not sure on the premium fuel issue. All my other cars have run regular gas so I need to actually sit down and look at how much more premium gas costs. I dont like the premium for premium gas but it might be a nessicary evil because of the cars I am looking at.

Spec-V - I prefer an indpendent rear supension instead of a semi-indpendent beam like on the Spec-V I also do not like the safty ratings on the sentra that I have seen. http://www.intellichoice.com/reports/vehicleReport/vehicle_nmb/16183/section/safety/type/new

My last ******* ford lasted 142,000 hard driving miles and one accident that totaled it as well so excuse me if I dont share your opinion of ford products.

They may need to be modded to get there but I dont know that I need to be there for what I need the car for. I dont see your SRT-4 being the equal of any of the cars listed in the handeling department from what I have read.

Get the RSX-S. I got mine with my friends help for 16,500. If you need a deal on them, Frank (01blueMP3) is the inventory mngr at the dealer.

If you get lucky you can find one like mine that has a special badge. If you do, get it!!!

Here is what Im talking about. Its a special pakage that is limited, and costs an additional $5000 when new.

Darling, you're perfectly welcome to buy that, you just won't be allowed to park it in front of the house. :p

Don't worry, I only look at the free/cheap stuff for the N/A. (gossip)

well, imo.. it's all in how you take care of the car, it doesn't really have all that to do with what kind of car it is.. although i grow up on honda's and nissan's..
that's what my mother had and my first car was a honda crx then i got a mazda b2200 pick up that rocked!! i must say..
anyway, what i was saying if you take very good care of the car you get, it should last you a very long time. (cool)taken care of the maintanence that is...
