New 2017 CX-5 Revealed

If we're going into the 40s? XC-60 for me.

How's that crapple CarPlay working for you, Mango con mierda?

It works fine, you plug in your phone and it starts right up. The best part about it is it will always be up to date as it uses whatever version of IOS you have on your phone. How's that crappy Mazda Infotainment system working out for you? The maps will be outdated in a year.

The fact that you hang out in a Mazda forum and have no attachment to Mazda, just to tell us how great the CR-V is....And then end your post with this:

I don't regret mine at all.

Makes me wonder.
Are you SURE about that?

I'm going to the CR-V forum: "you guys should get a Mazda. I don't regret mine AT ALL!"

Notice that Mango has 70 posts here and 32 on the CR-V owners forum. Maybe the CR-V forum is as BORING as the CR-V is. :p

Wow. That's really sad. You sure you don't regret that, Mango?

Oh, and don't let him make all CR-V owners look bad. They are actually pretty respectful of other brands on that forum. Like we would be, too, if we didn't have Honda fanboys hanging out here trying to reassure themselves they made the right choice.

Faint praise at best, I'd regret the CR-Vs transmission literally every time I drove it and miss the agility and steering of feel of the CX-5

I just got back from test driving both gens, and while I don't have the pre-'17 experience you all do, I have a few impressions.

First of all, as far as interior, while the 16.5 is nice, the 17 is just better. I think they achieved their goal of it feeling more premium. Regarding cabin noise at highway speeds, yes, it's quieter in the new one, but I didn't think it was *that* big of a difference. Is it noticeable? Yes. Night and day? No. I'm not saying that in a good or bad way...just saying. I didn't find the 16.5 offensive in the cabin, but I can see where others would.

The exterior of the 17 really does make it look like a more expensive car, though not to the level of actual luxury cars/SUVs, but that's what I expected based on the pics. One thing I didn't like was that the chrome trim that comes to a V in the center of the bumper isn't one piece; there's a line down the middle of it, where it connects. For me, that looks a bit cheapish, though many may not notice or care.

I agree with those of you who say that no one really needs a huge amount of power, but after experiencing this 4-banger for the first time, I'm a little underwhelmed. I agree with reviews that say it's "adequate". To be fair, I'm coming from the killer Tundra 5.7, so that's obviously coloring my opinion. I used the Sport mode, which worked well enough.

In terms of handling and ride, I think my expectations might have been a bit too high. If I had driven a CRV/Rav-4/etc beforehand, maybe I'd feel a bit different, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Some of that is based on the fact that I didn't take corners too aggressively, as I was with the sales guy and didn't get nuts since we passed several cops, but I got on it several times. As far as the ride, the 17 handled bumps a bit better, but I'd need more time to give a better assessment. Basically, I wish I could get a re-do or a second drive.

Anyway, I might test drive the CX-9, as I wonder if its bigger size and acceptable mileage might be a good compromise, for the Tundra. (I haul lots of music equipment and need the room) That said, I still liked the 5. The sales guy stated the obvious, which is that I'll get a much better deal with a 16.5. Anyway, I have some time to decide on a few thousand less for a good interior/exterior, or wait and pay more for an even better interior and see if the diesel has a bit more pep.

Hope some of this was informative.

Three years of free map updates. Also, Auto/CarPlay is coming.

So back to yours... did the dealer ever fix the CarPlay issues you were having? (cryhard)

What Carplay issues? Mine works perfectly fine. And LOL @ you believing Auto/Carplay is coming. Some people really do believe everything they read on the internet. Funniest part about it is now were starting to see CarPlay/AA in Mitsubishi's...yet nothing for Mazda, not even a timetable of when it's coming...(notcool)

I might have bought a CRV, but its down on power in the uk compared to a CX-5, it also looked dated to start with, I'm talking about the 2013 car.

Latest one does look better, and the 2015 revised version had a 9 speed auto, but still down on power, however I'm uncertain about the new car, will it be a cvt or the 9 speed, I will look at a new version when it becomes available in December.

But I'm not holding my breath, the Jap cars are not what they once were, and I'm on number 8 now so should know.

Perhaps a Vag car or a Korean one next, maybe another CX-5.

Regards the reliability in the UK its now dropped down the list, so is no longer what it was especially in AWD diesel versions, economy is no better as the present car is heavier at around 1750 kg, and it has never won a group test here, while until a year ago the CX-5 would win everyone it was involved in.

Just get a CRV. Better MPG, Turbo(more power), higher resale, better reliability, AA/Android Auto, more interior space/leg room, more padding in seats, digital tachometer, extended warranties are cheap(8 years/100k miles under 1k). I don't regret mine at all.

Wheels swap out pretty easily I hear but I do like the swoop and the no chrome. Jag is pretty sweet, lease only, still won't be cheap- if i splash that kind of cash go big or go home- f-type with cx5 on side.

Go big or go home?

Then get a Cayenne S. [emoji23]
I wouldn't call getting a base F-Type "going big"

When you get back to back Mazda reps telling every. single. blog. and. news outlet. That AA and carplay is coming, and with additional details that it is expected by end of 2017 for most, and may need a hardware upgrade to do it. That isn't a generic "yeah yeah its coming". That is a pretty specific set of details.

And I say this as I've read EVERY single review in the last 2 weeks. These details are coming from two things. First the original announcement of the 2017 CX-5 March 8th. This is the dude who made the announcement

https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacob-brown-26047217

Jacob Brown

Production communication doesn't announce this kinda thing at a launch unless they are planning it. Remember a couple years back of a diesel Mazda6 in the states? From what I remember that was a rumor, not an announcement.

Secondly during the test drives where the press was invited to tool around last week?. The same thing was said. This is back to back statements.

Now yes. This could fall through but when you get two sources stating this and from Mazda communication reps who are notorious about what comes out of their mouth because that is how they are trained? That coupled with looking to be considered a "premium" brand. Its a pretty good bet.

The Cx-9 might be a better choice. The flexible space and over all nicer feel of the CX9 are hard points to overlook.

Exhibit #237 for yrwei's approach:
Under your close watch you figured I have 237 negative posts so far. But consider I have had 3,640 total posts that's merely 6.5%! Please count your comments among your 122 posts critical to the forum members and see what is your percentage of doing that instead of talking cars?

This's a car forum. Criticizing cars is fine, but criticizing people is not!

Curious if you paid the extra $1,000 for Honda's GPS? $1,000 for the GPS package. Kind of a rip off, no?

Thanks for you first-hand review between two gens of CX-5! It's very informative from an outsider!

I might test drive the CX-9
You're driving a full-sized Toyota Tundra pickup I'd think a compact CUV is too small for you unless you're ready to downsize. CX-9 is bigger. But try to get FWD version (which means no top-of-line Signature) as now there're signs showing the same i-Activ AWD system used on CX-5 could be under-engineered to carry heavier weight on CX-9. AC is another common complaint. Rebooting issue on infotainment system should have been fixed for 2017 MY. But these may not be any issues for you since you're living in SoCal. :)

Liar...

Edit... here's some quotes in case he decides to edit his CRV forum posts:
Mangoconchile on the CR-V Forum in all his glory:

I'm having an issue with my Carplay in my Touring CRV. I would say 80% of the time when I connect my IPhone 7, it will go into CarPlay mode then disconnect about 30 seconds later telling me no device is connected. Before I take it to the dealer, has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm using a brand new lightning cable. I haven't tried another IPhone YET, but that is my next step(unfortunately everyone I know uses Android).

mangoconchile said:
I am also having the same disconnect issue and thought taking it into the dealer would be pointless as they would not know what to do with this.

mangoconchile said:
I reset my Network Settings in my IPhone, it fixed the issue for a while but now its back. Is there a permanent fix for this?

mangoconchile said:
I have an issue where my Carplay will disconnect randomly(head unit also shows phone disconnected) but music will continue playing. It's really annoying and I'm trying to find out if its a legitimate issue with the vehicle or some bug in IOS. I am using a brand new lightning cable. I will try using another cable and see what happens.

...and just to show how great Honda integrated CarPlay with their system, here's a thread of their issues:
http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/137-2017-present-official-specs-features-etc-gen-5/133626-apple-carplay-issues-solutions.html

I want Mazda to bring it... but I also want them to do it correctly, not jam it in roughly like Honda did.
