NEMOC Random BS Thread

I've been getting some good help with the dash do-dads on the REPU. One of the knobs is for the choke. I noticed there was no cable connected to the intake when I was trying to get it to start on day 1 and last night I found the clipped end behind the dash knob. After finding and skimming the shop manual it turns out the choke should be turned on manually (just like your snow blower or lawn tractor, speaking of which, Amanda says the truck smells like a really big lawn mower, LOL). Where was I? Oh yeah, turn the knob to engage the choke. It has a motor inside (probably seized since I can't turn the knob). The motor will receive a signal from the dash temperature gauge. When it reaches operating temperature the choke should automatically close. Fat chance getting that to work, but I should at least find a way to connect the choke. It should improve cold starts and reduce the number of stalls. Rumor has it that the light on the dash that looks like an alarm flasher is actually the choke engaged light. No mention of it in the shop manual, but then again, I was just skimming.

The other knob is apparently the dash light dimmer. Most people disconnect it to make the dash lights brighter. Right now I have no dash lights so at least I know that knob isn't the reason why they aren't working.

I'm trying to get help with the turn signals. They flash on and off for maybe 10-20 seconds but eventually stick on. It's probably the relay. Gotta dig into the shop manual some more to figure that one out. I may not pass inspection if they don't work. I'll have to research replacement parts and such.

Just found a REPU on eBay.

It's at $5,000 now but the reserve hasn't been met. It'll prolly go for $7-10. Looks like a fairly clean example but not quite up to the caliber of the one I bought. The owner has opted to paint a bunch of trim pieces black where the previous owner of my truck had everything chrome plated. Racing beat intake is nice but the radiator looks worse for wear. The interior is decent except for the cracks in the dash. Based on the different license plates in the photos, I wouldn't trust that all the photos were all taken recently, and those rims are awful.

Anyway, no buyers remorse here. I might email the guy to see where he got the tonneau cover though. I'd love to have one of those in white for my truck.

WOOHOOO! Mazda just called. Due to my loyalty to the brand they are going to reimburse me for the full amount of the VVT/timing chain repair! $1142.41! Yay!

The guy is a pure rotorhead.. Did you see the RX3 in the background?

Woot....woot! Great news Chris and good to see that Mazda recognized your brand loyalty!!!

More wheel research. Scratch all the other ideas previously. The current wheels are 16x8" with what appears to be a 5.75-6" backspacing (35-40mm offset). It's more or less a FWD offset. The only problem is that they are 6 lug hubs so I can't use a FWD wheel. The tires rub against the inner suspension preventing full lock so I want to switch to a 7" rim up front and maybe keep an 8" rim out back.

Most 6 lug wheels have 0 offset or at most 6-8mm which would cause the wheels to stick out beyond the fender. Many REPU photos I see with aftermarket rims usually end up with that skateboard look with the front wheels sticking out a good 1.5-2". I understand now why there are a bunch in SoCal using the factory rims with trim rings.

Anyway, I think I finally found a wheel manufacturer that makes 16x7" rims with 5" backspacing. This would put the outside of the wheel at the same spot as my current 16x8" rims that have a 6" backspacing.

I'm going out on a limb here, but would anyone else see this as a flaming rotor, and thus the perfect rim for the truck?

Shown here in 15" version:

And here in 17" version (I would have something between the two):

I would never pick the triangle out normally, but I seem to be running out of options.

There are a few other designs by this company. Take a look if you have time. Just remember to scroll down to the 6 lug options.

Great news Chris.

Hi All, Happy Hump day. Spent easter with my parents and family. Beautiful weekend.

Still cleaning out the apt, but getting there.

rims are such a personal thing
I know, and I'm having trouble finding my personality in the selection that fits the truck. I'll have to do a little photoshopping with these and any others I can find.

Went to Harbor Freight this morning and picked up a $200 tool chest. It was great to be able to just toss it in the back. While I was checking out, the kid who brought the boxes to the front of the store looked out the front and goes... Wow, who's is that orange truck? :)

I've seen the razor ones as well. They'd look good.

The meteor almost looks like they have little rotors on them :)

It does, but their shape would depend on the rim size. Here is a photo of the MeteorII

This is the MeteorI (5-lug version). These are 16" rims so its a little closer to the size I would get.

Another option would be to have the inside painted. I could see white working on the Meteor style with my truck. This photo looks like the inner section was painted gray.
