Need new digital camera suggestions...

I saw the Canon s400 and s30 today. Don't like em. too small at least the 400 is. Feels like I should be using tooth pics to hold it.
The s40 just doesn't look nice to me, I'm weird like that.

Saw the 3800, and it's really not that big of a camera in my eyes. Couldn't hold it though, was in a display, and I was in a rush.

Your right about the 3800 only having 100, that's why I was saying that night shots concern me, although these above look fine.

As for how do I know about what camera you used by file info. Windows XP lets you choose what file properties you want to see. In windows Explorer, If you right click on the ( warning, foolish retarded man trying to explain the impossible) area where it says File Name, type, total size etc, it'll give you the option of adding more. Just choose Camera type. this is also a great place to add other details for MP3's, like song name, author, album, bit rate etc.

we have a Canon G2 at work. Now, this is a nice camera. But, out of my reach right now :(

I'm gonna stand up for the rechargable batteries. Yes, packs are nice and they do last longer but.....that really shouldn't be the selling point from one camera to the next. If you've got 2 cameras with the same features and you'd be happy with either than get the one with the pack. If you get a camera that takes AA's then you the Rayovac NIMH rechargables. I've read a big study on it and they turned out to be the best. They have thier own 1 hour charger and arn't expensive. I've got many many sets in my camera bag. And, unlike almost all battery packs, it's not going to set you back 50+ dollars to get more sets of batteries.

I just wanted to stick up for the rechargables :)
By the way, I have an Olympus C700 Ultra Zoom. It's got a 10x optical zoom with that, I've never relied on my digital zoom. Yes, it's only a 2.0 MP but, I don't need more

No, but I easily take 150+ pictures all with the display on, with my rechargable AA's that cost like what? 10 bucks, maybe 12? I'm pretty pleased with that. Plus, I've got 5 sets of them that I keep in my case so I've always got them. Also, it shouldn't take you more than a minute to change them. So for my 50 dollars I can take about 750 pictures and you can take your 400 and I wont concern myself with the learning curve of the batteries and everything like that.

And for what it's worth according to the Best Buy site.
Sony 2.5-Hour M-Series Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack NPF-M50 59.00
Up to 2.5 hours of continuous use per charge; for use with Sony digital camera models DCR-TRV8, DCR-TRV10, DSC-S30, DSC-S50 and DSC-S70

I'm not trying to cause a fight but I think it's pointless to exclude every camera that doesn't take a battery pack.

I forgot to add. When was the last time that you were out with your camera and you actually used the whole battery up? I never do. I have a 4 month old and I take so many pictures of him and yet it seems that I rarely have to change the batteries. I think what you should concern yourself more with is balancing your memory to your batteries. I've tried to do this, I've got 2 64mb cards and one 16 that came with the camera and one 128 mb card. IF I was to use all of my batteries, I would be running out of memory about the time I was running out of batteries. Also, I can charge mine in the car :p

I'm not even going to read that because anyone with half a brain knows that the ion lithium batteries last longer. What you obviously didn't get from my post is that in my opinion it's not worth eliminating all the cameras that use AA's and that you all are acting like they are the only way to go. If you reread my post you will see that I said that my batteries last for about 150 pictures, that's from a 10 dollar set of rechargables.

Those look great IMO . looks like you used a tripod with moderate to slow shutter speeds. If you have the space on the memory stick I would set the RES all the way to the highest and take line up shots.. that way you make sure you get everyone's car , you can always crop it later lol ....
but I think those pics look awesome.. that is what iso 100 will do on a tripod or something sturdy .. just sharp
Bruce

well, not really a tripod, but I set the camera on a trashcan how about that? I would have gotten line up shots, but there wasn't enough space to put al lthe cars next to each other. (check out the sky though :) )
Shutter speed? I dunno... not very quick though (about 2seconds?) I just did the auto-night scene mode...

Oops, and YEAH!!! someone agrees with me :) I was thinking I'm the only one thinking this. Maybe I should have read the link.

old electronics store I used to work at might swing me a deal on a Sony or Canon.

I'm thinking, if I can finance the Canon G3, defer it a year, and then for for it, I'll get it. Otherwise, I'll get the Sony. The memory stick, and AA thing doesn't bother me at all. I'll get the 92, 5 megapixel just because they are a sony store, and I can get a really sweet deal on it. I really wanted a G2, or a G3 though.

I'm going to wait until I get the speed, see how much $$$ is left, and go from there.

thanks for all the help guys! This was great.

this picture was taken with a panasonic DMC LC33, takes SD cards up to 1 gig i think, but all you really need are a bunch of 128's can take moves with sound, has tons of picture mods + burst shot
