Need new digital camera suggestions...

I decided to finally put some thought into this. But i can't decide which one of these 3. I've considered other names from Minolta, Nikon, etc, and kept coming back to these 3...

MY 3 choices

1. Sony DSCP72 3x zoom, 3 meg
2. Fujitsu 3800 6x zoom 3.2 meg
3. Canon S400 3x, 4 meg.

Looks like the Canon and Sony have damn good picture quality. But I love the lens on the Fujitsu, and I want a great zoom. 3x zoom is nothing.

1. Sony. Great build quality, nice pics, features galore. Only 3x Zoom. Memory Sticks are $$$ @ ~120 for 128 megs, uses AA's, Not a great looking Camera. Crappy Zoom. cheapest one at MSRP 549.99. Best movie feature with 640x480 option

2. Canon - Very Small which is good, special battery pack unique to it, best picture quality by far, crappy Zoom. Most Expensive of the 3, Compact Flash ~128 megs is $90. MSRP 699.99

3. Fujitsu - Still good pic quality, Wild 6x Zoom, I like the shape of it as it looks easy to hold, Uses AA batteries, no auto focus light for night shots, uses Xd Picture Cards 128 meg is ~$90. MSRP 649

any users of these out there?

you can always find deals on compact flash cards these days...i have a couple of 128mb cards that i picked up for $30 and $35...

stay away from sony (cameras are good but i still can't get over those stupid memory sticks...lol)

I would go with the canon. I don;t have one, but am thinking about getting the s200, 230, or 400.

Quick question... do you plan on printing these photos out larger than 5X8? Because you can pick up the s200 (same size camera, just 2 Megapixel) for $250. You could probably even get away with 8.5 X 11 prints with it.

btw... I would recommend http://www.pricegrabber.com when you buy. Just remember to buy from a reutable dealer and not go for the "absolute" bottom price. You can pick up the s400 for about $463 inlcuding shipping (from a good dealer).

I use pricegrabber for all my digital purchases.

oh, btw... I had teh canon elph (film... but same size as the s200 or 400) and it was awesome. You can get a case that fits like a glove and wear the camera on your belt (its the size of a pager). Very nice because you don;t have to worry about lugging yoru camera around.

Good luck.

i've got the s200 and i love it. i do wish the zoom was longer, but for the price, size, and amazing quality of the pictures, it couldn't be beat...until the 4 megapixel version came out.

I have access to some large printer, laser, jet, and plotters, so yes, I could print them easily. I'm actually going to take the work camera, and get a nice shot of the MP3 before I sell her, and blow it up like 24x36 or something like that, and print it on Hi Gloss photopaper at work :). I just did one of the 2003.5 Titanium 16x22, it came out nice.

But anyhow, that's irrelavant (spelling?)

I don't really care about how big the camera is. I do like to grab a camera, and not hold it between two fingers on the same hand :) so size, at least in this case doesn't matter.

go to www.dpreview.com assuming I spelled that right, if not go to yahoo and search for that name ,... It will come up ...
They test every cam that is out on the market and all the new ones coming out ...

I would recomend that you get something that is 2.5megapixels or more ...
Also get one that uses (I think there called) Flash media ( I forgot the name) ...
Canonn camera's use this media (G3) and the cards are available in mb's approaching 1gig ....

Also try to get one that does movies with sound ..that way you can take movies like I did in my sig....

The Sony DSC-s75 is available pretty cheap right now , and is a kick a#s camera with 3+MP ... but uses smart media . wich is capped off at 256MB of memory , wich is still a lot ...

I have a Sony DSC-S85 which is 4.2 MP and does full movies with sound ,,(3 different settings) has zoom , internal flash , night beam, custom photo editing , on camera led screan ,, plus many more features...
It cost me like 700 bucks but I love the damn thing
If you find a cam that you like but your not sure about it ,...
email me me and I will research it for you .

Bruce
BTW :I love photagraphy lol

You can get a 128 memory stick on ebay for sub 50 dollars shipped.. I just got one ...
for 120 that will get you the new 256 they have out .. you can go to www.imagestation.com and see it ....
and they do look great ... well the s-75 and s-85 anyway ..
also I don't use AA in mine ,, I have a battery pack that frigin lasts forever and a day..

don't know much about Fujistu , wouldn't mess with those , but the Cannon does have excellent picture quallity ...

you guys can check on ebay for some stuff, they tend to have good items .. I would buy a cam from them though ,.. just won't send that much money through the net.. lol

I dunno...I used to stare at my car from the third floor window which was next to my cube...:D

I like Compact Flash cards.

You know the Fuji cams are nice also right ... and they don't cost that much...
here is a link to a fuji finepix 2800 it's the priceing and availabilty...
here is the review... only bad thing it uses 4 AA style batteries. If you have the patience to deal with AA style batteries(crap) (I don't) then this would be a great camera ... or one of them...

next Cannon Lets see
This one is extra sweet.. if you want a good camera that does movies with sound up to 118 minutes max resolution of 2048 x 1536 (hardly used on mine , except for our car meets)

And it the lowest it is available for is 339.00 ,

now lets check out the A -series

The A-40 would be the next step down for me ,,.... but it is sweet ,, does video with sound bro...

my brother has the A-20 ,, it's frigin sweet ,, trust me ....A-40 is even better.

And the price in right in your Range ... lowest price is 239.00 ... I guess this would be the one I would choose if I was stern about the money part , otherwise I would go with the S230

Ok I have had enough fun at work lol .. I gotta go home ,,
hope this helps some
Bruce

Thanks for all the suggestions guys/gals... When I get off work tomorrow, I am gonna try and spend some time online checking out all the different models really well. You people ROCK! :)
