No not wedding night help you gang of perverts (hump)

We are getting married at the end of September and can't seem to decide on a honeymoon destination. The Budget is aboput $6K.

We would love to go someplace easy like St. Lucia but of coarse recent Hurrican activity is not something to screw around with in that area of the world in September.

Our other ideas at this point are Greece, Hawaii, Fiji.
Hawaii is probably the most likely but we wanted to take the oppurtunity to go someplace outside of the US.
Greece seems awsome to us in a mix of tour and relaxation but not to many people are fond of Americans over there these days.
From my research Fiji seems to be in its rainest season around September/October so perhaps we would be tempting fate.

Thoughts, Suggestions, Opinions, Concerns...please help.

We haven't really considered Asia although we probably should. I guess I think of Thailand as a real rough area with some occasional spots for tourist and thats the kind of place I want to aviod. I don't want to go to an area where I have to stay specificly on the resort or I will likely never be seen again. Much like Jamacia.

Then again, I could be WAY off as I know very little about that part of the world. What impact has the Tsunami had on that area? Are they rebuilt or basicly still up crap's creek?

Thailand is not bad, but then again, I could pass as a resident, though I don't speak a word of Thai. My dad does, as well as all my family on his side, so that makes it easier. My uncle has a friend who owns a resort called Coral Island Resort, the only way there is via boat from the mainland, it is literally a resort on the island with no one else there. It seemed quite safe to me, but again I was with family who mostly are residents and speak Thai. The resort was not affected by the Tsunami, my uncle was there at the time of it, and he is OK.

I went on my honeymoon in september last year, we went to playa del carmen, mexico. it was beautiful, the weather was great. there was a little rain storm everyday in the late afternoon, it was a good excuse to go back to the room.. (hump)

Try the French Riviera and the spanish south. Nice, Montecarlo, Barcelona, Mallorca. those places are beautiful. From the place you mentioned i deduct a beach is important, and also warm weather. These places have both.
An alternative would be a mediterranean cruise. I dont know what cost is. but you can go 7 days and visit Italy, Greece, France, Spain.

Nassau or Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Can't go wrong with that. Aruba is also good stuff.

congrats of getting married craig........i must have missed the thread! 6K is a lot of money for a nice homeymoon. wish my wife and i could have spent that on ours last sept.....

Australia would be a nice place to go. Plenty of stuff on the east coast with Sydney, Surfer's Paradise, Gold Coast, Melbourne, etc. Plus language won't be an issue. However, from a pure romantic standpoint, not much can beat Hawaii. Once you go there, you don't want to leave. Or at least, you never wanna go anywhere else for vacation. How long will you be on your honeymoon? What OTHER activities do you want to do while on honeymoon?

Give Mallorca a shot. It's one of the three islands off Spain along with Ibiza and Menorca. I went there on vacation 2 years ago, lots of things to see and great beaches with calm water and great climate. If not, I suggest somewhere along the Mediteranean.

hawaii, nice...the small islands are great, greece, never donw but want to go...the isles are great i hear and they treat you real well! fiji. i think just the air fare is like half or more of your budget...much longer ride too!

LA to brisbane (go to surfer's paradise) to cairns to melbourne to sydney to LA, $999. add on another couple hundred from boston to LA and back, you'll still have plenty of money for your trip. i know the site says the deal expires but they've had the same deal goin for like a year now so i wouldn't worry about it, once this one runs out they'll put the exact same one up again

What resort did you stay at? I went there with fam for Christmas.

Of the places you listed I would do Fiji. I've been many times, always as a stop over on the way to Australia, and it is always wonderful. They like tourists and much of the island is beautiful. Hawaii is very nice, but getting more crowded as time goes on. I persoanlly don't like to even go to Maui any more as it has been built up, but the others are pretty secluded. My parents are going to Molikai (sp) for the 40th anniversary next month but they really like isolation.

As for the votes for Australia it's very much similar to Los Angeles, just with nicer people, in terms of culture and climate with a heavier Asian bend. Just returned from there last September for my grandfather's 90th birthday and it was nice but nothing spectatular. Also the $999 deal ends just before the weather reallys tarts to warm up. We used it last time because it coincided with when we needed to go but it was cool and rainy for the three days we stayed in Sydney before driving up the coast to Brisbane, actually Murwillimbaw, but Brisbane or Surfer's Paridise are the closest area that people actually know. Actually, I'm probably jaded on Australia if I think about it, I've been there at least 10 times over the years visiting my mother's family so take what I say about it with a grain of salt.:)
If you decide on Fiji, try looking at fare from Air Newzealand, they generally have better fare there than Qantas.

Plane Tickets to Thailand may be a bit steep, not sure on that, family always took care of it, as well as staying there. I haven't ever been to Hawaii, would like to go some day, or even to Australia. For me, it's another reason to see family if I go to Thailand.

I've been to (eastern) Australia and it's nothing like the Crocodile Dundee version that most Americans are used to. But as was mentioned, the people are very nice there. Plus, you can check Australia off your list of places to visit in your lifetime (if it's on there). New Zealand might actually be more interesting.

I've been to Thailand twice, but not to the southern end where the beaches are. I would imagine that now would be a good time to go because they have rebuilt after the tsunami and are really trying to get the tourists back. It depends also on how well you adapt to different cultures. Going anywhere asian is a big shock unless you are familiar with the language. If you can roll with it (some people can't and that's OK) then Thailand would be a fun place to go. I really enjoyed the times I was there.

My wife and I went to Hawaii in '04 for our 10 year anniversary. We went to Oahu and the big island (Hawaii). Loads of fun. I don't think you can ever regret going to Hawaii, though I wouldn't go and stay a whole week in Waikiki.

Can't say that I'd recommend Jamaica (spent three weeks working in Mo Bay and Kingston).

Other non-beach areas I've been that held particular interest were 1) Calgary/Banff/Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada and 2) Vienna, Austria. I've been twice to both areas and really liked them. Vienna particularly if you are a classical music buff.

Anyway just more ideas. Let us know what you decide.
