Need Help w/ Warranty Issue

It's stories like this that make me not care about preserving my warranty. No matter what you do, the dealership will find a way to avoid helping you out.

Skinnyjoint, that thing in your avatar that shakes his head cracks me up.

Yup, that's why I started to mod my car. I figured as long as I don't go overboard (like increasing the boost to >10 psi) or something stupid, I shouldn't need warranty.

Well, 2 1/2 weeks after I had my car towed to the dealership, I just found out that Mazda is going to replace the engine under warranty. I can't frickin' believe it took so long.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and support!

Ultimately, it had nothing to do with the filter itself. They just needed me to prove that I've bought oil change supplies at least 4 times since I bought the car. I provided that proof and now they're replacing the engine. It'll be at least a week until they get the engine and start the work but as I long as the work is being done and I have their loaner car I really don't care how long it takes.

What type of car? Did they give you an Rx-8?

Sadly, no, it wasn't an RX8. It's a 6 with leather and the Bose sound package. Not bad. Unfortunately it has the 4 cylinder motor, not the V6.

You better baby it. As much s*** as they gave you over your car you know the'll go over the that car with a fine tooth comb.

My dad had his BMW worked on and they gave him a METALIC PURPLE VW BUG! (It was a euro dealership) since it was the only vehicle they had left that they could loan him. It was so ugly. Anyway, we prolly wore half the tread off that thing because if we could make fast enough turns and accelerations maybe the car would seem alot cooler than it actually was.

Dear God....I just got a call from the dealership. Turns out they had another Protege come in with exactly the same knocking noise I was hearing. Upon investigation, they discovered that it had to do with the screws holding the butterfly in the throttle body. On my car, 3 of them had come loose and 1 was gone entirely. This, I guess, was making the butterfly rattle around. Now the question is, where did the 1 missing screw go? They said they'll tear the motor down until they find it and I'll make them show it to me.

What really kills me (for those of you who have been following this thread) is that it has NOTHING to do with the engine, oil, oil filters or oil changes!!! 2 1/2 weeks of hell trying to produce my receipts and that was totally unnecessary!!! Arghh!!!!

LOL your luck!! Well at least they are fixing it right. I would have to say something, but not until after they fixed it.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, a screw will leave the engine and exit through the exhaust. You could ask them to check the catalytics to see if the screw is lodged in them...

And I agree you should consider yourself lucky that 1) they are going to cover it; and 2) you know what the problem is.

Sometimes the screws will damage the head if they're bouncing around too much. The cylinder wall could also be damaged...
