Just today this problem started where I start my car and I hear some type of knocking or tapping noise under the hood and I think its coming from the driver side. I push the clutch in then I start the car and thats when the noise comes on. This happened twice and both were when the engine was cooled down. Also along with the noise when I let the clutch out to get into gear it makes the same noise but a minor version of it. Sometimes it makes a weird noise when I shift form 1 to 2.

Is this clutch chatter? From what I've read about the clutch chattering problem its when you engage the clutch to go into gear but that doesn't explain why it makes that tapping noise when I first start the car. I'm going to try see if it makes the noise tomorrow morning when I start the car to go to work.

first off, i would check for anything in the engine bay for something loose, that might cause that noise. start there. Then from what you are describing, my next guess would be that it might be the throwout bearing, but that is hard to determine without being there and hearing what you hear.

It happend this morning but it wasn't as bad as last night. It only made that noise once when the clutch was fully engaged but that was immediatly after I shifted from 1st to 2nd. Theres nothing that I found loose in the engine bay.

Is it expensive to fix a throwout bearing? If it was that wouldn't it make that noise all the time rather than when the car is cold?
It sounds exactly like this: http://www.msprotege.com/members/Mike%20R/MIC-003.MP3

ouch... that doesnt sound good. try to pin point where the noise is coming from. what kinda mods have you done to the car? but most important find out where it is coming from, block or trans. if i had to guess sounds like the block.

Yeah, doesn't sound like a throw out, maybe a silly question, but have you checked the oil, all other fluids?

All the fluids and stuff is full. The noise sounds like its coming from the driver side so I was figuring it was the trans. All I have is an injen intake and custom catback as far as mods go. My next paychecks were gonna go to a clutch and flywheel probably and hopefully the noise will go away with those mods. If its a throwout bearing and I change my clutch then it gets replaced right?

Dumb question: what kind of intake do you have and is it knocking against the brake master cylinder?

when you get the new clutch it will supply a throwout bearing. but if you replace it and it still makes noise, its possible that it might be the input shaft bearing, they both make the similar noise.
