N/A Mods advice

Hey everyone I'm new to the board and needed advice on some mods. Currently I own a 2003 red protege 5 with sport AT and I have written down some parts that I would like to install on my car, but needed advice if these parts are compatible with my auto tranny and if the parts will add some significant whp. If any of the parts listed is not good for my car please note that. Thanks In advance.

Parts List:
K&N CAI
Denso Iridium Spark Plugs
Magnecor Spark Plug Wires
rr-racing or unorthodoxracing underdrive crank pulleys
mazdaspeed ex cam and jspec intake cam
2.0L adjustable cam gears
Wagner shorty header
autoexe or corksport throttle body
INDIGO Alternator/Waterpump Pulley Set
AWR AT motor mounts
Universal grounding kit

None of these mods are going to hurt your tranny.
I think I speak for the majority when I say cai, & Header back exhaust, will net you a huge noticable gain. Plugs?? Wires?? Cams usually come last on the mod list. The throttle body(save your money imo). Motor mounts, urethane fill them yourself. It really jsut depends on wether your looking for performance, or appearance. The uni grounding kit(save your money). 1sty, from the forum has a very nice grounding kit he puts together for the members.

And just so you know, don't be suprised if someone jumps on you for not doing a serach on this topic before you open a new thread. These questions are asked/ answered everyday.

Hi RedPro5808, do you live in a state that does emissions testing? Just wondering, because if not, go with a full header. You will see more gains from it than a Wagner shorty. Anything is better than the stock manifold, but a full header > shorty. And the price is about the same too.

I thought shortys were a hella lot. Right around $200 shipped for a full ractive/obx. I just thought the shortys were up around $400?

DO A SEARCH! - j/k :) Intake/Header/Exhaust will get you the most for the least. Wires won't get you anything and neither will the plugs (but you won't need to change them for a very long time). Crank pulley would be next, then Cams (but they really need cam gears to be effective).

Forget the grounding kit unless you have a big stereo system or something. The larger TB won't gain you anything unless you have done every other possible N/A mod or go F/I.

Good luck!

You're probably right MH. I havent been to Wagners web page in a while. My bad. So its even more of a no-brainer to get a full header.

IHE..The header will net you the most gain. Like mentioned before..if you do emissions testing in your state, you might want to keep your cats intact and go for a shorty header and maybe hight flow midpipe w/ cat. The header in my opinion net the most gains out of all the mods you listed.

Get the cams..they smoothen out the torque curve a lot and your power transitions in your powerband are a lot smoother so you don't get that jolt of power when you hit a certain rpm. I know mine did. After the cams, 140kph came up faster and the engine seemed to use less effort to get up to that speed. With cam gears..they'll be awesome.

I'd do the underdrive last as they are pretty expensive and net you the least gains. Personally I wouldn't even bother w/ the pulley set.

The throttle body, I'm not sure about. It's one of those iffy mods. Just because the bore is larger, doesn't mean it'll net you anything. Maybe just a quicker response. But for that amount of cash..I'd just set it for some suspension upgrades instead.

Before any questions are answered, where you live and your emissions requirements must be known. N/A Power is hard to achieve when constingent on emissions.

Right now I am doing intake, obx header, and racing beat catback........

I have some fun power.

Putting the header on before the exhaust was a disappointment, but when I put the exhaust on I was MORE then happy.

But I second what was said earlier.

There is a sudden JOLT of power that actually threw me off guard today (I put my exhaust on yesterday).

It almost feels like a turbo lag.

Just my .02

Hey everyone I would like to say thanks for the advice you've given me. Here is what I came up with after reading your responses.

Intake: K&N CAI
Exhaust: either Mazdaspeed or HKS axelback exhaust, or a catback exhaust system
Headers: OBX, Wagner, or Ractive Header BTW what website would I need to go to, to order a Ractive Header?
Cams: Wagner NA cams or Jspec intake cam and mazdaspeed ex cam & cam gears
UDP: rr-racing underdrive pulleys or Unorthodox UDP Also do I need new belts if I install either the RR-racing or Unorthodox Racing UDP?

As far as these mods are concerned, since I have an '03 AT what else modifications would be next to add more whp because out of the mods listed the headers give the most output and I would like to have more whp for my car.

Thanks again for the responses and I look forward to more. Thanks In advance.

Just curious, are you in Team Underestimated in Hawaii? With all Randy, Ryan, Ikaika them? Just curious, because they have a red P5 in their crew, or that hangs out with them, and they told me to jump in the crew with them. I drive a white MP3 converted LX. If that's not you, than i apologize in advance for making myself looking like a retard.

i am doing a group buy on the OBX header right now, click the link in my sig

I also have an auto P5. My mods: CAI, UDP, OBX header, Magnaflow cat-back, N/A MPI, trans cooler. It's a nice boost from stock. Still not really super fast but more enjoyable. Going to port my intake manifold soon and remove the VTCS.

I kept the secondary cat and had a bung welded on after it. Then I extended the second o2 sensor wire and pluged it in. They plug into your OBD2 port here for emissions testing and the car passed no prob. Even with the MPI.

I think you can find the answer to this by reading through this post; I'm sure there are other threads covering pretty much the same info. As stated in here, I'd start with the basic intake, header, exhaust combo and then move on from there. Some of the things on your list won't exactly assist in HP gains but just maintenance issues so I guess it just depends on what you're really looking to get out of your car.

yes you will ned new belts. again refer to my previous topic about this or the "underdrive pulley definitive discussion" thread for more info there.
