My turbo is "whistling."

I'm starting to hear this high pitched whistling that starts when my turbo starts to spool up. And it's not the turbo spooling, they are 2 distinct sounds. Anyone know what it might be?

Is it constant or is it dependent on if your foot is on the gas or not? If you let off the gas, does it stop?

my friends VW did this to him twice, head gasket blew the first time, then the motor went BYE BYE, hope its not your situation...

i dont know why this hasent been stated yet but if it is a whisteling noise then I WOULD think that there is a leak somewhere. a small leak that air is blowing out from casusing a whisteling sound seeing as how it is only happening when he gets into boost.

i do get full boost. i've checked all my connections, but i guess i could check again.

It only whistles when the turbo is starting to spool. If i don't boost, there's no whistle.

I think I know what it is because it has done it to me with 2 turbos now. Both of the IHI VF22's on my P5 blew up shortly after the whistling started. It is metal to metal and your bearings are shot. You haven't been allowing your turbo to cool down enough before shutting the car off right? Just a guess since you have not provided hardly any information at all.

I give it about 1 month depending on how much you drive.

i doubt it! probably something simple

Does it kind of sound like a bottle rocket? Mine had a sound like that, that wasn't the turbo spooling, and Mazda replaced the turbo, and the exhaust. The sound kept coming back and the dealer said they already replaced everything and I was on my own, and I had that same sound until I got my Perrin exhaust.
