My New STF project...

So last week I finally got to dyno my lightweight muffler which I suspected a small loss....

I guess my butt dyno was right:

Dropped from 101.78 HP to 100.29 HP and from 102 lbs. of Torque to 102.13 lbs. of Torque

So lost a little bit of HP and Torque , but but also lost 18 lbs. of weight on my car, which is a good improvement in the total weight of my car and this can be more significant during Autocross or Drag racing.

So end of the local season in Ft. Myers came to an end with interesting results at the last event. I was testing the difference between width vs. weight on wheels (15x7.5 UL vs. 15x7 RPF1's) , by using the same tires (Toyo R1R) in similar conditions. Results of this test still in process. Toyo's are definetly slower than Rivals when it comes to Ft. Myers but I still thing the event's results were decent if you see the name list of the first top Pax drivers...

How did the sound change? Louder, quieter, the same? The data you give for that test is well within the noise that can be expected with taking car off the Dyno and then strapping it again. I would consider it a no loss, no gain mod.

It did when I added the catback, not that much. I think like Andy said the factory ones seem pretty decent, his $2000 + design did not do too much either. I wish you could bring your car to my dyno guy...

That's a disappointing thing to know about the header. I'd love to go to your Dyno guy Andres but things are complicated right now. (shrug)

Andres,
If you need a mazda2 dyno buddy or heading to the drag strip post something , I'm pretty open and would love to go to either.

Soon I'll be closer to you! Next year when my finances straighten out and I get new tires I'm going back on the track =)

First event of the Year....

Well after nationals we get to meet at Ft. Myers for the first local event at the fastest Autocross in the Country. This year I decided to enter the Pro class. The design for this event favors big power cars like Corvettes so my 2 was not the car to have for the event. I got to race against my good friend and Nationals competitor with his Mini, which for this event had some improvements like lighter seats, new coilovers and brand new 225 Rivals. I was racing on old 195 Toyos with 15% left on 15x7 RPF1's and the other set with 20% left on 15x7.5UL wheels. 4 runs I took the first two on the RPF1's and then switched to the UL.

The course was so fast that in the first run I decided to shift to third gear before the shift light came on (set at 7200 rpms.), got a 68.0 time. for the second one I decided to stay in second the whole run, the light came on three times (68 mph) time dropped to 65.9 !!!! . Third run I decided to go faster and let the Rev limiter hit three times (73000 rpms.) got a 65.0 .. For the final one i went faster stayed on the rev limiter for 2 seconds a few times but hit a slalom cone with a time of 64.15 ..

Not bad for old Toyo's.. I went ahead and ordered 205 Rivals to compete agains the Mini , but planning on using Toyo's at Nationals.
