Here is some advice that came too late. Anytime your rear starts to slide out, the worst thing you can do is quickly let off the gas. That will cause an INSTANT loss of control unless you are a seasoned pro. And no, not some normal driver that goes to autocrosses, a real pro driver. It's just like when people go into a corner and then brake, instant loss of control. You have to brake before you get to a corner.and started to skid into the other lane so i was like oh s*** so i started to slow down, and then all of a sudden my back end swung out
Your best move would have been to actually turn into the skid even though it would have been like you were steering toward the ditch. You would have only had to do it for a half a second or one second to regain control.
This seems like it's a lot to think about in a split second that this is occuring in, because it is too much to think about. That's why it recuires practice so that it becomes second nature and more of a "reaction" than "thinking". People that live in northern climates that drive in snow usually learn this as soon as they start learning to drive. But if you live in the south, you never learn it unless you practice it.
Sorry to hear that it happend to you though. Maybe you have a learned a valuable lesson that will carry over when you buy more expensive cars and you wont do the same thing in those.
