yes the new version is only going 2 be sold by cullen at ********** nobody else will be carrying it anymore unless they buy it from him (not sure if that is gunna happen) and the new versions are the only ones that will be tunable but they are like 1000 bucks brand new so thats no fun

I have a hard time believing that every authorized Unichip tuner in the country is going to stop tuning the Unichip. There are a lot of other makes and models of cars that run these chips. I just met a guy yesterday with a Unichip tuned Volvo and he gave me a card for an authorized tuner in the area. I guess the version could be different, but it seems like for pre-PDA enabled Unichips, that would mostly just be tuning differences. The actual hardware is mostly likely used for many applications. Now I could see the harnesses for the current Unichip becoming impossible to get, but if you have a working harness, that should not be a problem. I may be wrong, but I'm just trying to use common sense I guess.

My plan has always been to go with unichip, because i know that JDMSam in dallas is a tuning wizard with them, plus i like the 2 different maps and built in boost controller.

DSM AFC doesn't control timing, so i would think that with a good tune on either, at the same PSI, the AFC would net you less power. Of course, if its between an AFC with a good tune and a unichip that you leave on the stock map, i would imagine the AFC would come out better and cheaper too.

i left a message this weekend at my local tuner's shop, hopefully he'll call me back on monday, keep voting and posting guys

Every unichp application is different for every car. And what i said is that all of the vendors are being switch over to the new system which is now USB and don't want to touch any of the older Serial Unichips because the tuning software for them is much crappier. The original unichip as quoted by my local authorized dealer is ancient technology and can only tune a car using windows 98 so basically it is inferior equimpment for tuning and this is why so many people have a hard time getting proper tunes with the system. So its not that they can't tune them its just that the results are so much better with the newer systems that non of the tuners are happy with the results they get with the older systems so they don't even wanna look at an older system. Point blank he said to me we don't like to turn away business but in this case we won't even touch an older unichip system

Hahah what a bunch of jokers. I will be supporting the current version for a long time to come since I have one. Also, the new version if anyone really cares.

I have heard that he is the only vendor that is going to sell the New version of the unichip

lmfao more funny stuff. good ol' cullen trying to monopolize the market again.

The new Unichip is a XP based software vs the old DOS based software. They are swapping the CPU's with that are faster and up to date with new technology so tuning will more tuner friendly and where it will work with the PDA's. Also, the USB vs serial port connector change for faster upload and downloads.

I received this on Nov. 18, 2005. In saying, "you will be able to trade in your Unichip... for an updated Unichip," it`s not clear if they will make you pay for the upgrade or not. I was assuming they would not.

Eric,

The PDA will be released in January; depending on the model kit that you purchase it may come PDA upgradeable. If not you will be able to trade in your Unichip directly back to the factory for an updated Unichip.

Ok so i guess the cullen thing wasn't true then thats just what i heard but i was correct in everything else, so you will be keeping your DOS system to tune the unichip many of the other vendors will not touch it let alone tune a car using it

I'd really look into rom flashing the stock ecu. some guy in the tuning forum is working on the binaries. Screw the piggy back if you can tune the stock ecu. If this guy figures it out, this will be a great option. If he doesn't get it to work the unichip will work fine though.

yeah people have been trying to do this since the car was made, hopefully this option will become reality, keep voting guys

i can't wait to get my intercooler and get EMS down the road at some point. Definitely let us know your impressions of the car with the FMIC and unichip/
