How does it work with the insurance company? The car is registered and insured under my sister's name and partially under mine. I know I just need to call them and they will direct me to a garage and have it fixed at no cost but do you have to provide them with any details about how it happened? I work in downtown Montreal and a fight broke out near my car and that's how the windshield got busted. A police report has already been filed. I know insurance companies can be strict about that kind of stuff.
If a police report has been filed, you should be good. I would call the agent and tell them the situation...ask if it will be a problem and if it will raise the rates. It should not, but asking doesn't mean you want to file a claim, so there's no harm in asking. Normally they'll just send you to a place and you'll pay a small deductible.
+1 for safelite. I've had 2 windshields replaced by them. They'll come to where you are (my office the first time and my house, the second) to do the work, too.
Maybe in your area. Around here, they've been playing those things for at least the last 6 months on the radio, every 5 minutes. Makes for a very long 40 mile commute.
heh when my windshield broke all i did was call the insurance people. they sent a guy out to look at it, then he did the repair in my front yard. it withstood a front end collision too so he did a good job. if its a crack that is getting big call them anyways and tell them (that show mine started out). oh the front windshield replacement is only if you have a certain car coverage as well
Had them do my front window not too long ago.Called my insurance talked to them they set it up and all I had to pay was $100 bucks out of my pocket .Guy came to my garage did the work in less than in hour and also did a great job.(cabpatch)

not all insurance policy's cover windshields, and those that do could have a deductible...
That being said, I replaced mine last year for $175 installed with tax, that was with a slight hook-up though, so I would figure 10%-20% more without hook-up.
