My Black Evo X

Careful there Dana...

You know you've pushed your car too hard when...

...your accelerator pedal breaks clean off. Actually, the owner of this 2008 Mitsubishi EVO X GSR swears he wasn't caning the car excessively hard when his go pedal snapped in two. Posted on the evolutionm.net forums by 'DRAG', these pictures show the severed pedal in question. DRAG claims he was at a stoplight at the time (in front of some STI owners, no less) when he started to leave the light with a little "enthusiasm". As he pushed the GSR's accelerator to the floorboards, the thing's plastic arm broke off clean. Clearly frustrated with his $40,000+ automobile, DRAG called the dealer and waited for some roadside assistance that never came. To make a long story short, Mitsubishi refused to replace the pedal under warranty, but the dealership decided to pick up the tab anyway. Hopefully Mitsubishi doesn't view this case as an isolated incident caused by someone pushing their EVO too hard, because A) you should be able to push an EVO really hard and B) EVOs have been pushed to their limits while being tested by members of the automotive press and we've never heard of anything like this happening. Take a peek at some more pics of the completely cracked pedal in the gallery below. Thanks for the tip, thedriver!

He said he was trying to showboat and do burnouts. I'm well aware of his situation. Eh, one guy broke his pedal. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

they are saving on weight man.. hope this doesnt happen to the Brake pedal!!! :P

that would suck doing about 80 and can not stop

Only the throttle is plastic. Not sure why they did that, but apparently many new cars have plastic throttle pedals.

most "throttle by wire" cars have plastic pedals so that they are less likely to short anything to ground.. if you have a metal pedal and the Pot shorts to the pedal, that will make the pc think WOT or no gas what so ever.

Ok, I saw the car. it's real.

"Hey, there are models in the back seat!" lol

Kooldino: Congrats on the purchase! I am seriously considering an Evo X, but I wanted to ask you what the insurance rates are like on it. I heard that the Evo IX was murder to insure.

why not call your insurance agent and ask them? any answer you get on here will be anecdotal at best

insurance on the 8 wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be but it still wasn't super cheap. i think i dropped ~$250-300/6 months when switching to the 3. granted that's also going from a 3 year old car to a new car

The Xs are less than the IXs on insurance.

I think I pay $110 a month or so.

WERD. I'm looking for an Octane Blue Perl. Keep an eye out if you see any good deals man.

OBP was my second choice - nice color. Just make sure you run some dark accents on it to make it look mean.

You looking to buy new or used? 2008 or 2010? GSR or MR?

Options?

Finding a deal on an evo . . . lol gl with that

I looked for a long ass time. Can't get a decently loaded one for under 36 grand.

For that money you can build an amazing supra or skyline.

Yeah, right.

#1-You can't get a decent skyline in this country for under $100K.

#2-Have you looked into the price of supras and supra parts? You'll spend $50K on that car to make anything of it.

And at the end of the day, you still don't have a brand new car.

I meant build one which im doing right now. One of my best friends has owned one (240sx) for 5 years with a rb20det.You are right you don't have a brand new car or a warranty but you can get a basically new rb25 engine (from reputable company) for under 5K and have it professionally installed and replace ALL the stock compnents for under 15 grand. Thats using only the best quality parts / services as well as a basic bolt on kit that usually comes with the "clips." That stock engine has 250hp and can handle over 650 on stock internals. With 4-5 grand extra in mods you can build a very fast car.

I would rather take that risk than buy a used EVO / STI any day. I can only imagine what owners do to evo's before they sell. Thats a very risky move. Evo's are nice. I wanted one and im not bashing them. But they are expensive to buy and expensive to mod as well. Not to mention they throw your warranty out the door just as fast as mazda.
