My Big Turbo Build- Pictures

i thought with the RR mani/DP combo you could only recirc it into the DP? or am i wrong? or are you on a custom DP?

BTW. in the photos i noticed the mani and turbo look really close to the firewall. you running any upgraded mounts? i was running just a RMM and my motor moved a s*** ton, i know socks with his set up was having problems with his mani smackin the firewall which is what apparently caused his head to lift. i dunno how true that is but your setups bigger than the 3071 im on now and i have plenty of room but im gonna be on full upgraded mounts to be safe.

Well RR has an option now, you can get a dp with a tube in it for the WG or you can get one without. my downpipe had a tube in it on their setup but scott cut it off and capped it off for me. He actually did a ******* awesome job.

I am running the full SU mount set. Socks head lift issue was not because of the firewall, there is just no way. His head lift issue was caused by 433whp and whatever ungodly amount of torque he had haha. It was the nitrous man. That s*** kicked in fast and hard and killed that motor.

its funny man, i was talking to a local guy here who actually worked for scott and said it best, "scott really can fab s*** but, i wouldn't ever let him touch my car. he is the shadiest dude i have ever worked with" haha. everything he did looked solid man. he seriously has probably close to 20 cars in his little shop all packed together. not including the numerous cars he has outside ripped apart.

out of all the cars i think there was 3 cars that were actually running/finished. one being an rx7 that was just sick. maybe im just salty towards that guy, every time he comes up i just get pissed off.

but gettin back on topic. get that ****** car runnin man!

Almost there! I will for sure be able to fire this thing up this weekend.

If you can, get a log with mass air g/s. Having the smallest of BT options, I would like to see how much more air the really BT guys are moving than me! Good luck turning that beast over this weekend :)

Copied/pasted from other forum:

There is happiness oozing out of my pores right now. To have this car running again is an absolutely amazing feeling after nearly 5 months of fail since this kit arrived in March.. Which followed 6 months of having a lot of money gone with nothing in return.

Anyways.. Got 'er running today. Car feels great. There is a 0.2 or 0.3 bar spring in the WG right now (the ebay store i bought it from sent me the wrong one, the dickhead won't take it back, so I said what the hell and put it in anyways) and the car is slow as ****.. but not to me. After driving a 4speed auto mazda3 sedan the last few weeks, 4psi feels like im in a jet haha.

Changed the oil and flushed the coolant out once. Im going to do the same again tomorrow just to be absolutely safe. There was definitely some coolant in my oil when I changed it today before starting it up. But since it had sat for a few weeks when I did the change I basically got 95% of the oil out. Im not too worried about it, but Im going to change it again just to be safe.. Im not trying to compress any water in the chamber.

Otherwise the car feels ******* great. This turbo is so much more responsive than the 67.. and Im not pouring smoke out the exhaust (which gets a little tiring to see every time you look in the mirror). This turbo isn't water cooled, just oil cooled, and so far the coolant temperatures are substantially cooler than before since its not going though the turbo. I usually would have seen 220-230 on a day like this going into boost and sitting at stoplights.. tonight I didn't see it go over 200 after it running for an hour and stopping periodically to check everything.

There is some fail involved, but I can live with it.. all small things. Most of which will be resolved tomorrow.

1) wastegate spring..
2) blew a few fuses
3) thousands of zipties.
4) no bumper
5) massive intake leak
6) VC breather held on by heater hose
7) Broken meth tank fitting
8) waiting on piping to finish intake (adding recirc line and VC vacuum nipple.)

Anyways.. Here are some pictures as always. Ill have a lot more tomorrow as I get things finished up.

dam nice!

and with that turbo just being oil cooled, make sure u let it idle for a good amount of time (if you dont have a TT) before shutting off or the oil will cake up in there real easy

also i would wrap that rubber line directly on top of the manifold so it doesnt melt

Oh I know, I was even anal about that when I had a watercooled turbo =)

Im waiting on some thermal heat resistant wrap right now to do all my coolant lines and stuff like that. My manifold is ceramic coated, and even before it was I never had a problem with anything melting.

yea im pretty anal about tht too lol thank god i bought a turbo timer, sitting in the car waiting sucks haha

and im not sure if i missed it, but how did you route the IC piping? most MS3's and MS6's that i see route it over the engine but you didnt, have any pics?

Looks absoluetly awesome! I'm glad to hear everything came together nicely. Can't wait to see a couple flyby and maybe a dyno vid?! Haha. I know this is a real trivial thing... but you should get one of the VTA inserts for your SSQV when everything is all buttoned up. Makes it sound way better.

glad to see you have it up and running! what's your target boost going to be when you have it dialed in?

Thanks Sask! Ill definitely take a few vids this week. And Im going to be running recirc on this thing before long, Im just waiting on some aluminum piping so that I can weld a recirc tube on the inlet i made, as well as one for the vc breather system.

And jchouin Im not really sure, Ill have to see how it goes with tuning it. I don't plan on going above 15psi though, this turbo will flow A LOT of air, I bet you with jake tuning my SB and 15psi I could easily hit 370-380whp.

incredibly sexy madvillian

btw how much was it to ceramic coat the mani, if you dont mind me askin?

dude your next mod should be a shop vac! jk my hatch area looks like that constantly, and I always drag shop dust into the car. Impossible to keep clean working in a body shop!
