My Big Turbo Build- Pictures

The build is looking good bro. You are a MS3 trendsetter. First the aggresive setup that everyone hated on. And most likely seeing how aggressive they can go now...lol. And now the build. I know others have done builds before, this one is a little more extreme IMO.


on a side note though... your valve cover needs some PC/paint lovin' for real. It only takes 10 minutes to pull, if that. Ive had mine off twice now... :)

haha ive actually got an extra one in my garage im going to try to take somewhere this week along with some other s***. The engine bay definitely needs some dressing up.
 
Just an update if anyone cares.. I don't know if any of you guys are over on the 'other' forum, but I usually post s*** over there. The t67 that Race Roots sent me took a poo a few hundred miles in, hadn't even been in boost yet. The center cartridge housing cracked, which contains the oil and coolant passages. Well, this resulted in the mixing of oil and coolant.

Anyways, Brice did the right thing and helped me buy a new turbo, well he more than bought me a new turbo actually. So here are some pictures of my shiny new go-fastest part that arrived this morning in the hands of a fedex man.. took some next to the t67 too.

Supposed to help with compressor surge I believe. Looks like he made up for all your hassle!
 
those drilled out holes on the compressor inlet side, what are they for and what are they called?

Yeah, they're suppose to help with compressor surge. Basically, if your motor is not producing enough power for the amount of air that the turbo is trying to push, the air is forced back into the compressor in the opposite direction. This can cause damage to the compressor wheel because it can be quite violent. The machining allows for the air that is exiting the compressor wheel into the intake (the opposite of what it should be doing) to make a smoother transition in turning around and re-entering the compressor.

The way precision does the machining is not up to par with some of the competition, though. It's a matter of getting what you pay for. Im a huge fan of Precision turbos, but this is what real anti-surge machining looks like:

haha thanks man. my manifold is getting ceramic coated right now locally, I will be picking it up mid-week and will begin piecing everything back together. Im making a new intake/inlet piece as well, along with moving the battery to the trunk. Pictures of everything will be posted. I HOPE to have most of everything done by the end of this coming weekend, but snags always occur, so I won't hold my breath haha

hey mad you gonna go with the steedspeed top mount? i know cash is tight, but you have that rr mani and dp to sell. im dyin to sell my rr mani and get a top mount cnc'd one!

Thanks Jesse. You building your motor now? I forgot haha. I got the turbo from Modern Automotive Performance (vendor on msf) for $850 shipped. AWESOME customer service, and a super good price, since Mark at SU couldn't get his hands on precision products =( and Precision retails them for $1000. This is the journal bearing models by the way, ball bearing turbos of the same model are $1100-$1400. I highly recommend precision over Garrett, especially for the money. I did a lot of research, hard to find anyone who has anything bad to say about their products.

I really like the steedspeed mani, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with for the top mount, but I love my RR mani/DP. Im going to keep it for now. I may make a switch later on down the road, when hopefully there will be more options open.

(im pullin the motor now) im gonna be on socks' old turbo setup, bought all the s*** from kilik a few months ago. i just got a feeling im gonna want more then what the 3071 will push so ill probably run it an see what it will do then switch.

but $850 for that thing is damn good! looks like i'll probably be lookin at one of those here in the near future.
 
Late to the party but this is a sick build! The last time I saw anything remotely as cool as this on an MS3 was at Street Unit's Episode 1 meet last October. I wish I had any kind of money to do this kind of stuff to my own, but sadly I'm a youngin' and my part-time job doesn't give me much room for anything, haha.

noo no visits from him, i think he fell off the face of the planet after the massive fail that is scott ditchburn. you ever hear anything else from him or what? i saw that your turbo took a s***, no surprise man. i remember last i was at his shop i asked to see one of those turbos an he showed me one that took a s*** with the SAME problem yours had.

that whole deal and him was just one big ass hassle and just bothers me that there are sorry doods out there like him touching other peoples car. it's funny how much i found out about him LOCALLY after all that nonsense an that thread i posted on MSF made it to a couple of local forums here in tampa.

hope to see you back up and running soon, im really lookin forward to get my car back on the road man. its been so long.
