My Big Turbo Build- Pictures

tell me a little more about your 3.25" MAF housing. Is it 3.25" all the way back to the turbo? After playing around with different IWG's, I am now holding 23psi with my 2871, but maxing out my MAF voltage. I'm trying to find the best route to go to correct this while staying with the AP for a tuning solution. I don't want to start with the guess and check MAF scaling if I don't have to! Haha, fixed load cap, now maxed MAF voltage! I hope to see you putting down some big number soon :)

Ive never done it, but I know its not difficult to recalibrate the maf sensor in ATR for a larger intake. Im telling you man, get on the other boards, there is SO much more info for you on this subject.

I have the cp-e xcel XL maf intake. Which is just a maf housing (3.25ID) and a filter. The car will not start if you just slap it on and try to start it up. i have the standback so i mailed them my ecu/sb, they flashed them for it, and mailed it back to me.

Im still waiting on a few parts for it, but Im making a 4" intake/inlet now. It will taper down to the 3.5" OD maf housing, but the more volume of air I get before the compressor wheel the quicker I can get this mother to start spooling.

On a side note, I bet that car is so much goddamn fun with that 28r

Haha, I know what you mean about the other boards. On the same day of joining, my fast tapering boost issue was identified and is now sorted out. People were really quick to help out, which was killer.

And about the fun factor, hell yes. I know it won't make the max power of really BT cars, but boost is always available, down low, and comes in hard. Even with the size of the 28 and the fail flange, with my flow numbers (currently 340+ g/s @22.7psi), I'm confident I'll hit 350-370whp with big tq on the dyno, which is more than enough for my dd. Not that I won't be a little jealous of the 400+whp guys! lol

Are youu kidding me?! Brice and i determined for sure that Scott did not send me the turbo that was on the shop car. But this is a huge revelation right here. Holy s*** man..

not sure if it was or not (i hope not) that car and setup had the piss driven out of it man. it could be just a common problem with that turbo who knows. but he had one torn apart on a bench with that same problem.

was the turbo new or used when you got it?

that whole RR/scott deal is still one big cluster **** man.

The turbo I got was used. Its a journal bearing turbo, and the one that was on their shop car was a ball bearing (which is what I was suppose to receive)

picked up my manifold today, got it ceramic coated, and was finished 3 days ahead of schedule! so here are a bunch more pictures, and my turbo mounted up for pictures sake. The turbo will be clocked differently, but that'll give you an idea of what it all looks like right now. Im going to reclock the turbo and take more pics, ill also include some of the new intake/inlet piece im making right now (:

Lets just say the bank account is at an all time low haha..

call me a moron but wheres the flange for the DP on that last pic of the turbo bolted up the exmani?

HAH, the wife ******* HATES this car man

Don't feel like a moron man, I totally welcome questions. The turbo exhaust side and the DP is a v-band style, which is standard for any turbo set up on any car. I've basically gotten rid of any mazda specific flanges, which provides for better, cheaper and easier to acquire parts.

This is a common setup, similar to mine:

They use this method for a lot of exhaust pieces on many cars, it allows some flexibilty from heat/expansion/contraction while offering a good seal too.

Made some good progress today! Manifold is on the head and the turbo is on the manifold, which is the worst part. I need to play with the oil lines a bit again as well as figure out what I want to do with my intake/inlet.

Here are some cell phone pics:

Thanks man! Much appreciated.

man if only you could run a waste gate dump on that thing, it would sound so damn mean!

Say wha? I am running a wastegate dump on it, not recircing through the downpipe, just straight down to the ground. I've sucked up a few babies already.

that stuff looks tight!, and snug as well

firm mounts to keep it off the firewall would be good

Ahead of you haha, I've got a new set sitting in the garage that I need to throw on. Ive installed them on two other cars before but just picked up a set for myself.

Did a bit of work on it tonight. Had to move or completely relocate/re-route a few coolant lines to make room for the 4" inlet on the compressor of this turbo. After that was all done, I had some room to play with and began working on my intake/inlet piece im making. Also made an ecu box to mount the ecu and my sb/pnp in, since the battery is now in the trunk. Here's a teaser pic:

i thought with the RR mani/DP combo you could only recirc it into the DP? or am i wrong? or are you on a custom DP?

BTW. in the photos i noticed the mani and turbo look really close to the firewall. you running any upgraded mounts? i was running just a RMM and my motor moved a s*** ton, i know socks with his set up was having problems with his mani smackin the firewall which is what apparently caused his head to lift. i dunno how true that is but your setups bigger than the 3071 im on now and i have plenty of room but im gonna be on full upgraded mounts to be safe.
