My attempt at painting stock rims

sweet, no problem. I don't even know when I will be tackling this because my only wheels are the stockers and I don't have a set to put on the car while I'm painting them.

It might be a case of take 2 off and paint em one day...cruise around ghetto style with 2 wheels bronze, 2 wheels silver...paint the other 2 another day. That is, if I decide to paint them at all.

You should do one whole side (like drivers front and rear wheel) when you do it like that so it doesn't look funky.

i would not recommend doing that..... you really should just try to takle the whole thing in one weekend or something and keep the car on jack stands. You should not rush and have to give the wheels a good chunk of time to dry and for paint to cure. But hey it might work for you : )

I'm gonna do the painting all at once, but I'm gonna take my time doing the prep work. They've got a few coats of black paint that need to come off first, plus probably whatever finish was on them b4 they got painted...I dunno how well they did it, they just look like hell cuz they're all scratched and chipped, and I'm thinking the white on blue's gonna look racy (not for everyday, I love my gunmetal 17's lol), but for...well...racing

as long as you sand it good and then lay nice coats, you prob wont need to blast it or use paint thinner. just get a drremmel if you're really worried

What I'm trying to do is get all of the black paint off the wheels. In a few places, it's chipped down to the metal, so to get them smooth, I think I'd have to get all of the paint off, no? I'm a Rookie Beotch when it comes to this, so some1 steer me in the right direction if I'm going the wrong way...

you can use coarser one if you want to start off if the paint is a pain to get off, but finish it with 400

Cool. Any1 know how much sandpaper it'll probably take for all 4 rims? I'm thinking abt using some coarse stuff to get the top layers off, and the finer stuff once I start getting closer to metal. Also, I shouldn't need to wet-sand between coats, should I?

hey tyusha, how many cans of paint did it take for all 4 rims? and how many coats did you use. I'm gonna use like 4 coats of bronze and 3-4 coats of clear gloss.

Well, took the paper off. I got a little bit on some of the tires, but it ought to come off w/in the first couple of runs...and it only got like, in the lip where I didn't have the tape down far enough.

Anyhoo, without further ado:

Nice aMaff. A couple of my same wheels are potholed (******* ATL city government) and curbed to s*** (I think it was the Super Shine car wash). I'm going to paint mine grey I think.

nice job on the painting. I'm thinking of redoing my stockers as well since there are a couple of rashes and chips. I may do mine silver again who knows.
