MY 0 to 60 MPH TIMES - YOURS?

Anyone tried getting 0 to 60 mph times? Well I did. The mods on my car are listed below. I went to my super-secret (imperfect - some loose rocks from re-paving, not completely flat) testing track. Using a stopwatch, and my speedometer - my first run was an aweful 10.7 seconds. I did several more runs - the best I could do was 9.1, and I also had a 9.2. I was hoping to be closer to the mid 8's - but obviously not there yet.

Now compensating that these are "soft" launches (hey, I'm not going to trash my clutch just for this little experiment), and compensating that I was also watching for traffic, and doing both the timing and driving myself, I think I'm pretty close to MP3 0 to 60 mph acceleration. I'm going to try again after changing to Mobil One, and Denso Iridium plugs - I should p/u about 3 hp from that, and try again.

I'd be interested in anyone else's results. Just be careful when you do your runs - don't want any accidents.

Only performane mods I have are Shortshifter, Injen Cold air, and racingbeat exhaust, but my friend timed while I drove, and I ended up trying 3 times.

8.8s, 8.5s, 8.7s

With the mods my car feels like a small v6 now, so these times to me really don't seem surprising. (exhaust helped A LOT)

Keep in mind, when my car was stock we timed as well, 0-60 and I got 9.0s, 9.2, 9.0

Equinox,

Did you do runs at a track, or on the street? Did you have help timing the runs?

I suppose stock cars can vary a little bit - more miles on an engine probably gets more hp once the engine is loosened up a bit. My guess is that a was doing a softer launch, and had my mind on other things whcih got in the way of a faster run.

It would be great if I could get an "adjusted" time of around 7 seconds - but I don't think this is going to happen with my current mods. If I could get an "adjusted" time under 8 seconds, I'd dance a jig.

Equinox,

Damn I missed the part about your bud helping with the timing - sorry.

times

tonight i am going out driving and i will time mine as well. i will let you guys know... and i agree with a soft launch!

Pro5OnSpeed,

I noticed that you have a MP3 ECU. Geez! How did get a hold of that ! I expect if you bought it new form Mazda, I expect it would cost you a over a grand or more.

PS - I happened to see Motor Trend listed 0 to 60 mph on a P5 as 8.8 (I expect this was a hard launch.) - bk

I'll get the old trusty G-Tech out later tonight and make a run or two. That thing is probably a little better than a stopwatch, but not by much.. lol.

Hell, I'll do a 3,000 RPM clutch dump, anything above that is wasted by wheel hop anyways... That should be a hard enough launch. :)

I might run some numbers in my truck too... I think I have a shot or two left in the bottle, although I think it is at something like 700PSI. :( At any rate, I bet I can beat my P5 by a pretty damn big margin.. lol

My gf timed me as an 8.3, but of course that's not 100% accurate because of...
-reaction time hitting the stopwatch
-the needle saying 60 and YOU doing 60 may vary

But my typical try is around 9s 0-60. It's all on the launch.

LETS GET SOME TURBO TIMES IN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!1
Gosh, these turbo folks are so bashful, no dyno runs, no times......
SHEESH.:wtf:

Sorry not a turbo...

my all stock P5.

circumstances:
A/C off
3.5k rpm drop
95 Degree Temp
level road

0-60mph:
8.385 sec.

TheHonzaP5

There's no way!

That's not even possible on a stock P5 unless you're on a 30 degree hill. I do 9.1's consistantly with my G-tech. Please don't post your stopwatch times. Go to the track or use a real timer!:bs:

I was thinking how this could be possible, and came up with a possible answer. On top of the human error with timing, I forgot one issue that every AZnan knows about...strong winds. Don't know if this would be a substantial force, but what I do remember is that it was strong.

Somewhere on the web I found results between a soft launch, and a hard launch for an MP3. It amounted to .5 sec. difference - as I recall 8.3 for hard launch, 8.8 for soft launch - so HonzasP5's time might be possible, or in the ball-park anyway. My best time was 9.1 for a soft launch, so if I did a hard launch - subtract roughly .5 sec = 8.6 sec adjusted time.

It could happen - right?

1st time I tried mine with the G-tech I ran a 9.55. That was with a really soft launch to avoid wheel hop. I played with the launch a bit and now I can run steady 8.7's with a low of 8.56. It's faster than stock with the mods I've done but I need more. Even before a diff I need to get some urethane motor mounts. The wheel hop with the stock Dunlops is insane.

The result is in...

Try my numbers:

0-60mph
4.502 sec

1/4 miles
12.314 sec

Top Speed
305 km/hr (190 miles/hr)

The spec:
'99 Familia S-wagon Sport20
Stage 3 Turbo
394 horses/7600rpm
4wd

Oh, did I mention it is in garage along with my Evos, and my Escudo. Alright, its my p5 in GT2 on Playstation, it is the closest thing to a turbo p5 I can get.

HUH?

Kooldino,
You have never heard of the game Gran Turismo 2? It is on Playstation One. It is a racing game, and it has over 400 cars in it. Mazda Familia S-Wagon, our p5 Japanese counterpart is in there too, actually the model available is the Sport20, 170horses, 4wd. The game, however, allows you to "mod" it up to 394horses, if you are interested in games, pick it up, its fun.

ok kinda had a wheel hop on the first start but launched 26-2800rpms and first try was 8.6sec , then second try i launched 1800-2000rpms punched it hard had good shift got 7.8sec and i was like this can't be right so third try i kinda punched it then push the timer on the radio and hit 8.0sec flat but don't know. All i have is Injen CAI.

Im guessing 6's

its kinda complicated to time myself

drop at 3-4K, hit switch, shift, shift again, shift again?
