Mustang Convertible: Why not?

let's see...

Fixups Or Repairs Daily

I hated the one new gen stang I drove. It was a v6 auto hardtop. The beltline in the car is so high and the dash is so tall and vertical you feel like you're sitting in a bathtub. No visibility whatsoever. I can only imagine the convertible being worse. I didn't care for the driving dynamics either.

fast only rolling downhill

just happens that we are good friends too

Well, that's been the law since 2002, I think, but yeah, it's nice. :)

I feel for you with your "monster" v10 ford. you might be able to drive thru anything but you can;t drive past a gas station. i prefer gm myself. much more technician friendly.
...'cause GM's big trucks are so gas-thrifty? O....K..... (screwy)

I might feel the same way, I don't know. I guess we'll see. I will say that the automatic just ruins the fun in most any car. Years ago, I drove a V6 manual Mustang and a V8 automatic Mustang, and found the V6 much better to drive, 'cause the auto just sucked the fun out of the GT. That was back in the previous generation, too, when the V6 was slooowww.

I've found one new V6 Mustang convertible stick for sale in the NoVA area and two used ones, one of which is red with tan (ew) and one of which has a somewhat over the top Roush body kit on it.

true story..

I drove an automatic mazda 6 and a manual mazda 6. the automatic felt like every other econocar out there on the road.. the manual had some life to it!

Displacement on demand gives gm the highest epa MPG rating. The technology works. ANYWAYS to get away from the whole ford v gm thing, didn't know i was gunna piss off everyone with a blue oval hard-on with the f-o-r-d jokes, the mustang v6, IN MY OPINION is not the best choice in this case. You wanted pple to convince you not to buy it and now ur all pissy about it. Dont; ask questions if you don't wanna hear the answers.

I'm not being pissy about it, but you haven't given one good reason not to buy the 'stang other than the fact that it's not a Japanese-made MazdaSpeed6! I don't have a "blue oval hard-on," I think I've made it pretty clear that my main problem with the Mustang is that it's a Ford Mustang, but Mazda hasn't sold a 4-seat convertible in this country, or I'd have bought it by now.

You're just in this thread flinging poo, and calling all Fords junk when Ford owns (not pwns) Mazda, and it's just kind of stupid. Thank you for your input, now if you don't have anything useful to say about the topic at hand you may leave the thread.

Don't answer questions I didn't ask. If I posted "anyone like their MS6 better than a Mustang?" or "Anyone know any funny acronyms for "FORD?"" your answers would have been effective.

Tell me, oh wise MS6 owner, what 4-seat convertible should I buy? MS6 convertible? Oh yeah THEY DON'T MAKE THAT!!

ope your eyeballs and read back a few pages where i stated that i have driven many different models of the mustang and don't prefer the handling. you must have skipped those couple posts. I alsostated that traction swould be another issue. seeing how ur in va rwd might become an issue. the ford acronyms were a JOKE. Chill the f out. you have a kid, how old? in and out of the 2 door might have some excessive wear and tear. you exact phrase "talk me out of it" The all mighty wise ms6 owner has spoken.(rei)

I think everyone needs to chill out in this thread.. Back on topic folks.. Lets help foolish find his next ride!

vw eos, audi a4, volvo c70, beemer 3 series, saab 9-3, thats just from a quick autotrader search, 06 and newer, don't know ur zip so search results are obviously off.

are you dead set on rwd convertable? any decent f bodies left up north? i lived in buff ny for 5 years and know what it does to vehicle (i'm an auto technician) being exposed to snow/salt, and extreme temperatures.

Ok, you don't prefer the handling. I get that. You apparently missed the posts where I stated that handling was one of my chief concerns, but that I was planning to take care of that with a Roush or Saleen suspension. You mentioned driving a bunch of different stock Mustangs and one that was modded for power, but I must have missed the part where you rode in one that was set up for road-racing or for autocross. I just didn't feel like your posts were really relevant or useful, you were just repeatedly making fun of Ford for no good reason. Sorry if I got pissy.

Anyway, yes, RWD could be an issue in VA in the winter. I'll get snow tires like I did with the Miata, no big deal. My son is 3, so yeah, we'll have to load/strap him into the car seat, but I think I can make it work. He'll be in a booster soon, at which point, all we'll have to do is put the regular seat belt around him.

If I could a convertible version of the RX-8, IS300, G35, Mazda3 or 6, hell, if I could get a convertible Celica that was less than 10 years old, I would. As for the EOS, they're too new, too expensive, VW has a terrible warranty, lots of electrical problems, and the car is no performance machine, either. Most of your other suggestions, Volvo, etc. are going to cost a fortune, up front and in repairs later. As for an F-body... ew... have you seen the crap-tastic interiors on those things? Besides, you say your problem with the Mustang is the handling, do you really think the F-bodies handle any better?
03 cobra. the insurance shouldnt be that bad. if I was going to buy a mustang it would it would have to a v-8
Insurance on the Cobra would cost a fortune, and my wife doesn't like any of the Mustangs post '68 and pre-'05.

When I was looking at cars, my insurance company said to me that insuring a Mustang of any sort was a higher insurance premium than almost any other non-exotic car. They said the accident rate for Mustangs is really high. Could be my age too. I'm 22, so I'm pretty close to the age range of those high school kids who get new Mustangs for free from their parents (there were a ton of those at my High School).

just the name of the vehicle makes a difference in prie so does color, your sex, marital status, the fact that i drive a speed6 rather than just a mazd 6 make my insurance high.

I find that really odd. When I insured my MS6 after I sold my Protege, my insurance only went up a little bit. According to the company, it shows up in their book as a 2.3 I4 Mazda6. I'm not gonna argue with them.
