Mustang Convertible: Why not?

eclipse spyder? current models (4th gen = 2006+) are 6-speed V6 w/260 hp (or 162 hp in the 4cyl)

the 3rd gen (2000 - 2005) spyders had 210 hp with the V6

oooh. Didn't think about a 4th gen spyder. I would get one of those over a V6 stang. And depreciation hit them bad too. Good call.

Nice find. I test drove one while I was writing articles for the local paper. Made a great noise. Not as quick as you'd expect for that HUGE 3.8V6 but more than quick enough to have fun. It felt like a FWD poor mans 350Z

Yeah, I didn't mention the Eclipse. I'm kind of unsure about that car. For one thing, a good friend had a 3G Eclipse GT that was nothing but trouble for him, as did Taylor (EvilMonkeyMSP). Secondly, a bunch of the GACC folks went to an Eclipse driving event at the launch of the 4th gen, and found some really weird issues with the steering. Finally, the earlier spyders always looked pretty good to me, but had tiny rear windows, with the top up, there couldn't be any visibility.

...I dunno, I'm going to have to do some research into that one.

Sounds to me like you've already made up your mind and you're just looking for people to tell you it's ok to own a v6 stang. I say go for it! I'm going to have to seriously look at a v6 Challenger when they come out, and it'll have the same stigma.

in ref to this lol. I had a 3g Eclipse gt w/ the 3.0 V6. I did love that car and the problems were less of the cars fault and more the fault of the people that tried fixing it at the dealership lol

Well, kind of. I'm not set on it, and I kind of expect to go drive one and decide against it. I'm not a Ford-hater, but then again, I'm not crazy about their interiors or general quality. My Escorts were good solid cars, but as they got older, they developed a lot of squeaks and rattles, so I don't have much faith in Fords long-term.

As for the Mitsubishi, after just a bit of research, I've got to say: they're damned ugly. bleah! Also, they've only made the 4th gen model since '07, so they're pretty expensive still.

I think I'd most prefer a BMW 3-series, but I'm going to have to go pretty old to get one I can afford.

Yeah, the friend that had one had a steady string of CEL's that kept coming back every time. Eventually he got tired of it not getting fixed. Sounds like a similar kind of thing

And Mazdas are better? Lisa's car, which has had no mods at all, has squeaks and rattles all over, hell, mine's better than hers, with having the interior out of it so many times, and wow, that yellow paint SUuuuucks. I have no faith in either of our cars, not that said Challenger or Mustang would necessarily be better. I like Mustangs alright, I've sat in a GT, just don't fit too well, right knee bangs into the dash . I may not be comfortable in the Challenger either, but I'll try it.

We've had a series of ladies getting kidnapped and killed at mall here in S. FL. It is a bit harder to put a knife through a steel roof vs. a ragtop. So back on the real subject. I like the mustang, vert or not. Who cares what motor you have. Do 6 drivers with the V6 make fun of the people who bought 4cyl? Do F-350 guys think the 8cyl sucks because he has a V10? And does the Powerstoke guys think the V10 owner are idiots for having such a gas hog? Its the same vehicle from the outside. Get what you want. If you want a 4 seat vert., then the Mustang is an exellent choice. Huge aftermarket support, classic good looks, and is a proven brand and icon in America.

NO because the v6 version is slower that the 4 cyl. at least in my case. ms6(rockon)

Both the powerstroke, triton v8's and 10's are inferior motors, poorly designed, cheaper materials, I make fun of anyone with the big blue oval on the front of their vehicle (JUNK) ****** Over Rebuilt Dodge.

I'd much rather have the 5.4 or the 6.8 than the diesel. Currently own a 2002 V10 and that truck is a monster. Foolish rationalized his purchase better than most people would. He set a budget, needs certain things, and looked at all available cars that fit his criteria.

I don't know what you feel is so much better, but going back to the OP, he's not gonna find much that performs quite like that V6 does.

because your car doesn't have a single ford component in it.

nope.. not at all.

unfortunately it does have a few. Fords injection setup is by far the most inefficient and prone to malfunctions. I feel for you with your "monster" v10 ford. you might be able to drive thru anything but you can;t drive past a gas station. i prefer gm myself. much more technician friendly.

Just make sure if you get a Mustang, you get the special edition GT-R setup from Japan, with the rotors and the pistons and the headers...

You fail to remember too that the Mustang is built at AAI in Flat Rock now, which generally is one of Ford's better facilities for production.

The mustang is built right next to the mazda 6 on the same assembly line (lol2)

I figured a stang owner should chime in.

the one in the foreground is mine. the car is great, i really enjoy it, and a v6 convertible isnt bad. Not near as much of a poser car as older ones were. feel free to get it. the new v6 sounds pretty cool to

oh and dont forget everyone the mazda 6 is built on the same final assembly line as the mustang.

I hated the one new gen stang I drove. It was a v6 auto hardtop. The beltline in the car is so high and the dash is so tall and vertical you feel like you're sitting in a bathtub. No visibility whatsoever. I can only imagine the convertible being worse. I didn't care for the driving dynamics either.
