MSP Pocket removal

I will hopefully be able to put up some pictures this evening when I get home from work. as of right now you are missing:

the HU (obviously)
the metal sleeve that slips over the HU and has tabs to hold it in place (a universal part that you can get anywhere)
the harness from the HU (should be included with your new HU) to the large plug (which is a standard Protege plug and required a special Kenwood to Mazda unit to work directly)

so basically you could have everything you need when you get the new unit but otherwise you'll only need to pickup a standard aftermarket adapter plug and solder...

the unit goes pocket on bottom, then the bar sits on top of that and you can see when you hold it up how its supposed to go, then HU on top of that.

Awesome - thanks!
so the only things I may be missing are the sleeve, wiring harness, and some screws to hold the bar in place. I'm not sure why they bothered to take THOSE with them.

i just installed an alpine unit using the msp/mp3 radio pocket and long, thin, support bar, or "audio bracket" according to mazda parts.

i have some major problems with the install. the pocket and support bar fit perfectly. however the alpine unit slides around all over the place and the rear of the cd player is tilted so the front is facing upward. there is nothing for the alpine's cage to snap into and secure the cd player. for now i've used cardboard as a shim between the pocket and the cd player so its at least level. but the cd player keeps sliding deeper into the dashboard. there is a little 2 way screw that fits the alpine and a hole deep inside the dash, but i want to avoid screwing the cd player in place; i am not leaving this $300 cd player screwed in if i ever resell this car. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

You don't have it installed properly

You need the alpines dash cage and locking side tabs. So long as those are in place the deck can not possibly move in and out.

so i should bend the side tabs outward? i didnt think i needed to because i didnt see anything the tabs would hook on to. i'll give it a shot. thanks a lot!

update: what i had tried originally was to install the cd player with the cage already on the unit.

but this time i removed the cage, pushed it into the dash space until it clicked (even though there was no "clicking" action). there still wasnt a place for the side tabs to hook on to, so i left the tabs untouched. then i slid the cd player into the cage and that clicked into place. it sits much further back into the dash than i'd want it and the bezel looks harder to remove when its recessed like that, but at least its not moving around. thanks for the advice.

in my 95 protege it all just slid into place, then again it was single din. now i have to figure out how to get rid of the scratches i put on my dash trim (pissed)

Everything you need should come with new deck, harness, deck, metal support frame. Din removal tools

Push the AC vents all the way down and then pull :) not too hard because theres a cable attached to the AC controls keeping it from breaking the cables. Then you just need a phillips, or flat blade.

considering the number of times between 1sty and I have done this particular task I can safely say you won't break anything by just pulling it out. just pull nice and firm, you'll be fine. I had an 03 pocket and that's all it took for the 10+ times I did it...

Im currently trying to pull my pocket out and having difficulty doing it. How do you get a firm grip out of it... the only way I can think of is by pulling with the front panel, but Im afraid this thing will break. Other than that, a screwdriver cannot go on the side no pop it out (not enough space)! I wanna remove it to be able to remove my radio HU because it seems to be stuck when Im trying to pull it out.

Thanks
