MSP in DS

I've got Hawk HP+. I've had them on the car over 2 years. They have been really good and they still have plenty of pad left. I might try something different when they need replacing, but from the looks of things that will be a while.

Oh yea...forgot about you MSPer's being limited on pad choices for the fronts.

Not to mention having to keep the ABS system intact in this thread since we are running stock class.

ahh, Steve Baumbach, we revalved his Koni Strut Inserts for him. Steve Wynne has the same exact setup.

ABS Kicking in straight line braking?

The only way I've fixed the ABS issue was by removing the fuse. However I'm getting slight lock up, I'm still playing with pad compounds. What pad compound are you using?

I'm working on saving money for your Koni wet build so you can add me to that list.

Yup, kicking in right before you try to come into a turn. The thing just wants to go strait once it kicks in.

Yup, SOL. Unless we can find a pad that modulates a hell of a lot better. I'm running Posiquiet in the rear and some semi metalic in the front. They were what someone had in stock at the time. I should of known better. It was an expensive mistake so I'm letting John do the brake pad buying from now on. He's got some ideas but I can't remember what he had in mind.

Here are the links to our results on Sunday.

We are 33 and 133.

Yeah, we had that problem last year when I was co-driving RacerXGirl's DS MSP. Braking sooner and staying out of ABS is a bit of a band-aid, but w/o changing pads it's about the best we could do w/o pulling the fuse.

My P5 doesn't have manual brakes, and I remember the first time I got into ABS on the MSP I thought I freakin broke something hard core. That s*** sounds like... well... s***.

Does anyone have a set or know of someone that has a set of 17X7 +50 offset wheels they want to sell? I need another set and I don't want to fork out the cash for a new set... trying to save for Tri-point Konis. Would want something 17lbs or less.

Try to find yourself a set of Kosei K1-TS, very good wheel only 14lbs. I'll keep an eye open as I'm usually bored and check FS stuff a lot... I haven't seen any though :/

We might have some old Racing Hart CP-035's... Maybe only 2 of them. I will check tomorrow.

Please check. Even two of them will work.

Did the CP-035 come in a 17X7. I thought they were 17X7.5? Very nice wheel though.

Thanks

Give me an email. I'm putting my Team Dynamics Pro Race 1s up for sale. Just haven't taken the pics yet. 16.5 lbs each. Also a used set of Hoosier A6s if you want them.

My pads are Porterfield R4S in the front only; stock in back. I get a different hard brake pedal when I fly a rear wheel on entering a turn under trail braking. It's a different feel but you can adjust for it.

My car weighed 2723 at Atwater this year with half a tank of gas and the Kosei K1TS wheels and Hoosier A6 in 225/40x17. FL 829 FR 835 RL 540 RR 518; Cross weights are 1347 and 1375. Stock with everything out of the trunk and glove box and the rear seats folded down. Could have drained another 4 gallons of gas out to lose 24 lbs, but didn't want to risk any fuel starvation on those big Atwater sweepers.

Just curious, have you tried using the Axxis Ultimates before that? I just ordered some R4S as well today. However I'm using a really cheap semi metallic pad in the rear right now. Just wanted to see if there was a huge difference between the two front pads.

Hi Jeff:

Never tried the Axxis Ultimates. Went from stock pads all around to Porterfield R4S in front and stock in the rear. Porterfield because I used their pads on a '91 300zxtt and they worked very well for me; haven't tried anything else.

245/40/17 Hoosiers

I ran the 245/40/17s on the front Sunday. They fit perfectly and I like them a lot better. I had less wheel hop out of the gate and I could get better rotation running a staggered setup. I had less braking issues but that could of been the course, it was a tight course so I couldn't get up to speed enough to hit the brakes hard.

You ran a 245/40/17 on a 17x7 tire? I notice a decrease in acceleration, I don't know if you noticed.

Yup, and they fit fine.

Were you running street tires or R-compound when you noticed the decrease? I notice a decrease with my 245/40 Bridgestone RE01 but not with the Hoosiers. There's a big weight difference. Hoosier is 21lbs and the RE01 is 27lbs.

I'm running Bridgestone RE01 245/40/17s front and 225/45/17 rear for my summer tires and local autocrosses. I run Hoosier A6 245/40/17 front and 225/45/17 rear for Divisional or National events. All are mounted on 7" wide rims. It's nice that our local region clubs have a street tire class for all stock classes and even street mod. It helps get new people in without having to spend money on R-compounds and still being competitve. I can even run street tire DS in Pro (Pax) class. Also it saves me money by not killing my Hoosiers.

Have you tried the Bridgestone RE01 by any chance in STX?

Ya, im using the 245/40/17 RE-01R right now. I noticed a decrease in acceleration but noticed a difference in grip over the Flakens. Braking was a huge improvement as well.

Good to hear that the Bridgestones RE-01R 245/40-17 fit on a 7" wide wheel.
That's what I wanted to run this year but they are so damn expensive here in Quebec. 225/45-17 were 270$ CAN a tire. More expensive than the Hoosiers. Went with what my co-driver could afford too. And yes I miss that difference in breaking.

There was some discussion of brake pads in here so I figured this is where I'd post.
I ran an autocross this weekend and came to two realizations:
1: If you are allowed: PULL YOUR ABS FUSE! It was so amazing to not be hitting ice mode every braking zone.
2: Porterfield R4s in front and Carbotech Panther+ rears seems to be too much pad. It is a great track set-up, but for autocross I liked the Panther+ front and Bobcat or Axxis Ultimate rears much better.

Unfortunately in Stock classes you cannot pull the ABS fuse.

Does anyone know where to get Axxis Delux pads? They are organic, which will have less bite and may keep the ABS from kicking in so soon. The brakes are so touchy on the MSP I think installing a cheap pad with little grip would be the way to go.
