Update so far....
We went out a few days ago and jacked the front end of the car up. Started the car and ran it through the gears. With the front tires up in the air, without as much friction, the car does go in gear as the tires do spin in all gears, including reverse. However, with the car back down on the ground, running through the gears just creates a whining noise that gets louder as the gears get higher. Putting it in reverse creates the whine plus normal reverse noise, however, no matter what gear it's in, the car will not move. Due to that, we've pretty much narrowed it down to a shattered clutch plate.
The car will go in later this week to our friend's shop for a complete tear down and review. If it *is* the clutch plate, I'm going to go with the following:

ACT Street Performance Clutch Kit.

GM Syncromesh Tranny Fluid.

SS Clutch Line w/ Coating.

Katboy Shifter Bushings.

It'll be a nice upgrade at the time while solving the issue and keeping Mazda out of it.
I'll update later this week as I find out more.
