Thanks. We're goin to jack the car up tomorrow and see if there's any apparent damage.

Been a couple of days, did you find anything out about your problem?

my tranny stori!

long story short.. tranny blew at 7500 Miles. synchros went early. 3rd was popping out and the car had a hard time going into 1st.
hehe
here we go..... home depot boost controller with immaculate throttle control so i'd avoid fuel cut. 25 dolla! defi boost guage 120 dolla (for sale! for 100) pexi turbo timer 100 dolla. blown tranny due to crappy mazda parts.. priceless... ahaha ok enough rant

i pulled everythign out of the car when it blew including all my mags and anythign pertaining to me beign into cars. today i check them out ... aka tuesday... and they are covering it under warranty. yippy!!!. although all i have to pay for is the clutch. hm.. time for upgrade... anyway

news for you all who plan on making power!!!

1996 kia sophia 5spd holds 300 hp and goes to our motors!!
good investment i'd say possibly some minor fabrication needed.
it's a mazda tranny that the patent got bought over from mazda by kia. hehe good s***!!!! take care and happy motors

If they're covering it under warranty, why do you have to pay for the clutch?

sry t3ase, didn't mean to threadjack.. just curious and this might pertain to you..

Yeah, those 'crappy mazda parts' really failed because they were defective. Not because of you increasing boost the cheapest way possible and without any other supporting mods??

whats is this 3rd gear problem i am hearing about, i have some issues with it but wonder if its the same thing

t3ase - since this is your thread I'll answer your question to the best of my ability without going off on Panda...

first thing to do is to check the tranny fluid (i.e. gera oil) by draining it. just a simple check to look for discoloration (should be a deep red, depending on which fluid was used, maroon to brown to black = dying tranny parts) you should also be able to check the fluid for burnt smells. get a new bottle of fluid so you know (approximately) what it 'should' smell like.

if everything is showing the all clear signs then check your clutch lines and your axles along with your cv boots for cracks (to be extra sure). if that fails then try a tranny shop, a few of them that I've talked to about previous cars will offer a flat rate to check things out and if something is wrong they will apply that rate to your total bill if you get it fixed there. sorry to hear about all the crap MNAO has put you through.. :(

Sorry to hear t3ease. I would go to the dealer. There is no way that they can give you s*** about a tranny issue, espicially since your car has been a absoulte nightmare.

Update so far....

We went out a few days ago and jacked the front end of the car up. Started the car and ran it through the gears. With the front tires up in the air, without as much friction, the car does go in gear as the tires do spin in all gears, including reverse. However, with the car back down on the ground, running through the gears just creates a whining noise that gets louder as the gears get higher. Putting it in reverse creates the whine plus normal reverse noise, however, no matter what gear it's in, the car will not move. Due to that, we've pretty much narrowed it down to a shattered clutch plate.

The car will go in later this week to our friend's shop for a complete tear down and review. If it *is* the clutch plate, I'm going to go with the following:

ACT Street Performance Clutch Kit.

GM Syncromesh Tranny Fluid.

SS Clutch Line w/ Coating.

Katboy Shifter Bushings.

It'll be a nice upgrade at the time while solving the issue and keeping Mazda out of it.

I'll update later this week as I find out more.

Re: my tranny stori!

Ooh, ooh, please post pics and a how to if you're going to be doing the clutch at your buddy's shop. I'd LOVE to see the details before I mess with my own!

Dude, go with Redline Superlight Shockproof gear oil! You won't regret it. Damn, I just found this thread.

Well, I can get the Syncromesh locally and not have to wait on it, nor pay shipping. It made a hell of a difference when I changed over to it from the stock fluid.. Any reason you'd say Redline?

Yay. Goin' in Monday morning. I'll also take some pics of the current clutch so the MSP'ers out there can get an idea of what good times I've been going through. :p

Dropped the clutch off today and saw the stock one. Also left him some RoyalPurple Sycromax tranny fluid. Thought I'd try it out and compare it to the GM Syncromesh I had in. However, since I have a harsher clutch anyway, it may be somewhat difficult to compare the two.

Well guys, clutch was installed and the car's still down. While the car's up on a lift, it goes into gear and the tires spin just fine.. However, once a load is placed on the tranny (off the lift), the car doesn't move.

It's back up at Mazda right now.
