sorry, i'm bored...

I was on a different forum...and found this post...

Looking good is objective. As far as cars that will match or beat the MazdaSpeed Protege for around the same price:

1. Dodge Neon SRT
2. SVT Focus
3. Cooper S
4. 1.8T Golf
5. Sentra Spec V
6. Matrix XRS (MANUAL!!! )

SRT is the beast of the bunch, and will decimate any of the other cars, and for less money. But its a Dodge....

If it were up to me, I would probably get the 1.8T Golf, chip it, open up the intake and exhaust, and run 13's all day at the track.

I don't understand what he means by 'match or beat the MSP'...

what do you guys think

But what is he trying to say?...he was too general. I dunno..just seemed like a lame comment...

Another guy was thinking about getting an MSP...and this guy puts up this post...(he owns a Matrix)

oh well...maybe he is misinformed.

Some people only care about 1/4 mile times. Lol All those cars listed is a drivers race (except for the srt, not too sure on the times of a matrix though)

Put some twists in the 1/4 mile and see who'll come out on top.
:D

Man, they are all cool cars, the XRS looks a little too mini-van like for me but whatever, guys need to stop getting bent out of shape if someone suggests they "prefer" a car, and others need to stop hating on others cars cause of their fragile ego's.

sorry, just saw it and thought i'd put it up here to see what everyone else thought..i'm not bent out of shape. i agree, they're all cool cars...

no big deal:D

the only cars that i can see of beating or in competition of the MSP (on the track not dragstrip) is the neon or cooper s. maybe the golf.

the MSP, or Protege in general are NOT drag cars. the transmissions are weaker, and less silky (when shifting). the MSP is a superb all around car. its pretty fast off the line, and it kills around the track. bottom line!

Some people only care about 1/4 mile times. Lol All those cars listed is a drivers race (except for the srt, not too sure on the times of a matrix though)

i couldnt agree more!

Performance
1/4 Times:
1. SRT 4
2. 1.8T Golf/MSP
3. Spec V
4. SVT/Cooper
5. XRS (I personally have no idea what these run)

Handling:
1. MSP
2. Spec V
3. Cooper
4. SVT/Neon
5. 1.8T golf
6. Matrix (again no numbers on this...)

If you're talking luxary features now...and convience features...

1. 1.8T/Mini cooper (heated leather seats, awsome sound system, automatic climate control etc...)
2. Matrix XRS (this thing is HUGE, so I'll put it as 2nd)
3. SVT Focus (leather, heated seats, traction control)
4. Spec V (Side impact airbags, sunroof and cruise control)
5. MSP (it's got umm...powerwindows...and a okay sound system) (I'm an audiophile, so nothing but like top line JL stuff...for me hehe)
6. Neon (umm yea it's got a boost guage whoooo, but no power anything)

Modding

Now if you're talking about modding, I would say the the Neon/1.8T would be the way to go. They got tons of aftermarket, they got beefy engines, and trannys, and their chassis can easily be made to handle better than the MSP, and modding without changing any stock internals, they will have a nigher potential.

The only two that would (IMO) have the least amount of overall potential, would be the Spec V/MSP. The MSP is bogged down by a weaker tranny, and the Spec V is bogged down by it's aluminum head, and an engine that can't be boosted anymore than 6-7 PSI reilibly as a daily driver.

But... for 6-7 PSI properly tuned will make an estimated 250-280 at the wheels (this is a large ball park number as it is still being currently tested) which is more than enough that I would want for a FWD daily driver.

I would say...anything can be made fast if you throw enough money into it.

Any car can also be made to handle good...it just depends how much money you're willing to spend.

I have an idea for a new thread topic...MSP v. SRT v. Golf v. Spec V v. SVT Focus. What do you guys think, has this topic been done 17 times before? Please keep it to one thread.

Mods, how 'bout we make this topic a sticky so we don't get this topic twice a day?

All here is fine and good, but all that really matters in the end, is if you are happy with your purchase. You can bang your head against the wall reading reviews, and worrying about what others say, believe me. But; what's the point?

Of any car listed here, the only other 2 I 'ever' considered were the Nissan SE-R Spec V, and the Copper S. As far as I'm concerned, the others don't even exist.

And; I know in my heart of hearts, I made the right choice. (thumb)

Oh; I also think it is the best looking of the bunch (although; I think the Cooper S is sweet). Looks are all personal preference.

Personally, I like the fact that I've been driving around for 3 weeks and haven't seen 1 other MSP.

For me; since 1/10/03. Although; l know there is another Orange, and Black Mica in the area.

i'll have to disagree with you a bit. especially on the handling thing. i've seen plenty number comparisons (1/4 time and slalom specifically) betwen the svt and the msp, and they are VERY close with the msp winning by tiny margins.

I'd have to find the test data but the newer SVT focus was only second to the Viper in recent test for the slalom. Handled very very nicely.

All great cars though, which gives a nice variety to buyers in search for a sporty car.

No problem...it wasn't really directed at you, more at the topic of discussion. But just do a quick search on these cars in this forum and you'll find a bunch of threads comparing every aspect of them. Most threads are at least 2 pages plus.

Ya this post is a bit old but sumthing kinda funny... he says- "If it were up to me, I would probably get the 1.8T Golf, chip it, open up the intake and exhaust, and run 13's all day at the track."
I love the golf and VW is prob my 2nd fav company but a gti will NOOOTT run 13s with just chip exhuast and intake. thats a fact.
