Sometimes when trying to turn on my car all it does it turn and turn but does not start. Im thinking it may be the fuel pump or something. Anyone else have the same problem. Also, when sitting in neutral sometimes with the clutch pedal not pressed in the engine makes a different noise, then when i press in the pedal the noise goes away. anyone else with these problems?

I've noticed the clutch thing.. I've had many cars that do that.. I think the conclusion is "It does that" if you listen that closely..

As far as teh fuel pump? There's been 2 or 3 people on miata.net who've had fuel pump issues as well. gather up some info and head into the dealer I guess... That's why ya got a warranty!

Try turning the key to the ON position and then give it a few seconds and THEN start the car. It will let the fuel pump pressurize the lines.

(From Miata.net)

Starting the M2 seems to take an excessively long time.

If it really takes more than a few seconds, there could be a problem with the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Take it to the dealer. They should have a new fuel pressure gauge set Mazda sent to the dealers' for this system (and the new '99 Protege) and the diagram for the new single line fuel system.

my dad told me to let it sit in the on position, but i just dont think thats right for a new car.

i go in for an oil change in december, im going to have them check it.

also, on my top where the glass window top is, the glued on trim around it is coming off. dunno if anyone else has that

Since the M2 runs a return line back to the gas tank, it will take a few seconds for the system to be pressurized after the car's been off for a while. It's not "wrong" when it's the way the car's designed.

The trim most definitely should NOT be coming off and I would get it fixed ASAP under warranty. My top is almost 6 years old and doesn't have any trim coming off.

heh, my moms brand new 05 Mz3 has the fuel pump issue also..I've just learned to press gas very slightly(like, barely at all), just to flow a little through..until we get the TSB fix for it.
