I am looking at a set of SSR GT2 18x8.5 +48 with a 235/40 tire. Does anyone have experience with this fitment. I am fine rolling the rears, but not pulling them. I am worried about the front rubbing on the strut as well. It seems that this wheel fits with a 225/40 with about 1/4" of clearance by the front struts, I am just worried the 235 will rub on the strut.

After reading through 8 pages i'm still unsure so I have to ask the more experienced.... 18x7.5 +42 wheel with 225/40 tires, anyone running this setup? Will it work?

Look at it like this. The rim you're looking to run is the same width as the factory (IIRC). Factory is a +50 offset. So, you're going to be running about 8mm closer to the fender on the outside. You shouldn't have a problem from that end. 225 is only 10mm wider than stock, figure 5mm on either side of the tire, for the sake of arguement. So, you're running effectively 13mm closer to the outside of the car. You're running a slightly lower aspect ratio than stock, but, that should all wash out once you figure in the increased width. I think you'll be ok, but if you really want to check, go measure 13mm out from a tire sidewall, with the back end loaded. You're not going to rub in the front for sure. Fat friends work well for this.

that's the idea... except factory rim is 7" wide and +52.5. so looking at 17mm closer to fender than stock.

Ok, yeah, you're right. It was late when I wrote that, and REALLY didn't feel like looking at the specs. Either way, 17mm is a little more than half an inch, so it shouldn't be a big issue.

yea I did think that factory was 7" also. I had a 20mm spacer in the back on stock wheel/tire and had to roll the rear fenders, so definitely no problem on the back end, but i'm hoping there's more space to clear those 17mm up front since I really don't feel like renting a roller again and dealing with that.
Either way, thanks for the great info, guys!

8) Fenders (Rolled, trim, stock, ect) (include details, major rolling required?): rears rolled sligtly
9) Comments before modifying the car to make the rims fit (Rubbing issues, clearance? Lock to lock?): rubbing
10) Comments after modifications done to the car (Does if fit now after rolling fenders, camber adujustments? Lock to lock?) fits no issues
11) Additional comments (how does it look? aggressive? Flush? recommendation?): Fits flush in the front and somewhatflush in the rear front could use a spacer.

Stock Camber
Fenders Rolled, Dremmel tab between bumper and rear fender, dremmel rear bumper tab about halfway down. Roll fender down the front as well
Extremely minor rubbing at lock (inside well)
Fit is ok, will only rub if i drive like a jackass and go airborn, but then i'll have bigger problems
Almost flush

if you get 5 mm spacers for the front, it should get rid of the rubbing on the front fenders at full lock. I did that on mine, as well as shaving down some of the bubbled parts inside the fender. I just took a pocket knife and cut those out to where its smooth/flat, and I have zero rubbing on mine.
