mazdaspeed 3
i have an 07' mazdaspeed 3 and just under 12K miles, the past couple of days i have been having tranny problems, when i am sitting still it shifts through all the gears just fine with no problems at all. When i put in first and start to go and then switch to 2nd it gets stuck in first and i have to kinda force it in 2nd, same with 3rd through 6th, but the the even worse problem that i am having is when i down shift if im in any gear and wanna down shift to the next it will not let me in at all unless i drop to the 1500rpm zone or around there, not those exact rpm's but really low rpm's, i mean this is really bad, i put the car up on the lift and checked the motor mount that bolts to the tranny and the crossmember and it looks crooked slightly with a torn bushing. i took it in to mazda and they said that they didn't find anything wrong with the shifting, and that the mount was fine, so i picked it up and still doin the same s***, it literally feels like a piece of s*** transmission now i am not crazy i have driven plenty of standards and have not had this problem until the past couple of days. is this motor mount related?, or is the clutch goin out, i have never felt a slipping clutch before?, if anyone could give me some help on this i would really appreciate it, i am going to keep bringing it to mazda until it is fixed.

Take the car to another dealer. That's the best advice I can give you. I've never had problems with this tranny and has always shifted smoothly.

Definately not a clutch issue...Go to another dealer like stated..go for a ride along..Walk the tech through the problem to help him realize what you are feeling.
Drive a new one with them if possibble to show the difference.
Mazda is a pain to deal with..they never want to fix anythng..I love the "Cannot Duplicate the Problem" BS they pull when you take it in for work.
What a crock.

thanks for the replies, i think ill take it one more time to this dealer tomarrow and ride with him and i would really like for them to drive a new one so that they would really no the difference because it is really noticable, the service adivsor i am dealing with is not the smartest person, he told me he thinks im boosting to much, its at stock boost, and he says stock boost is suppose to be 6lbs of boost, i just looked at him and laughed.

i tried to make it to the dealer today but didnt get out of work on time, if anyone has any clue what is going on your help would be great

I don't about what's causing your issue but you mentioned something about not knowing what it's like when your clutch goes out. When it goes out, you will be able to tell because if you put it into first (for example) and then release the clutch pedal and try to hit the gas, the car won't go anywhere...it will be in gear and rev but the car simply won't go anywhere. I have had this happen on two of my cars.

A wild guess about your problem would be that something is just out of adjustment. Or, something broke which is throwing things out of alignment and causing this. I know this doesn't help but as somebody mentioned, it's not your clutch. Google another dealer and go for a ride...

Did you every hear squeaking from your shifter? Mine started to squeak then it required he man strength to engage. The cables were dry and I felt like I was mucleing it into every gear. If so open the center console, pull out the cup holder, now pull the shifter base up over the shift knob. The 2 large cables coming from the front to the shifter might need lube. I just swabbed my finger on the shifter ball (lowest greasy looking part of shifter) and wiped some on the metal rods of the cables. Problem solved for me. Mine was opposite of yours pulling back wasn't so bad but going up to 1st, 3rd and 5th sucked.

keep us informed about what the dealership finds out. I have an '07 with just over 24k miles on it and the tranny shifts wonderfully. And I do not baby the tranny. I don't do the clutch slip thing...but I slam it through the gears with vigor almost every single day.

Aren't you an automotive tech Rodney?

yes but i am a very young technician but i have been a tech since i was 17, i am only 20 now and still have plenty of expiriences that i have not seen yet ,i have never seen this problem before , the transmission is not grinding all the syncros are fine, and i have never felt a slipping clutch because i just put them in and drive afterwards we have porters that bring us our work so i have never really felt a bad slipping clutch, i am dead set on it being that mount on the crossmember and and the tranny, i think since it is not sitting up right it causes the problems on the shifting through the gears, and it also get stuck when down shifting, i have checked all the linkage all the way through, but i do not want to get reall detailed in the problem, because then mazda will come back and bite me in the ass some how saying someone tampered with it with denyal of waranty.

tranny

its probably shift linkage. It happened to me with 3,000 miles on my car. I think the factory didnt tighten down everything to spec on some cars.

where is the adjustments at on the linkage? is it in the car where the shifter is, or in the engine bay? what did the dealer tell you?

the dealer removed my console by the ebrake and fixed in like 1/2 day for free. just say you want them to check it out

if the linkage was messed up wouldn't it be like that all the time, because when i am sitting still it shifts through all the gears fine, but when i am going and there is a load on the tranny is when this all happens

well if they say they dont know wat the problem make sure they check the likage the gears are very close and think that s*** can get tangled

oh trust me they better know what the problem is because im not letting it leave the dealer until its fixed i dont pay for this car monthly to have a ****** up transmission, if they say somethin stupid like that ima tear somebody's ass up at that dealer, and i had already mentioned the linkage to them, because i dont hear any grinding at all its like it gets stuck so i dont think its an internal problem

doesn't this sound like it could be a rear motor mount problem?

Transverse mounted motors rock front to back under torque, thus changing the positioning of the cable within the engine compartment.
