MS3 Specs and Prices

Nice post on the SCC article, saved me $5, thanks. The more I read the more anxious I am to get these over here and start tweaking on them.
Already dropped money on one and now I'm just hoping to have mine by Christmas.

Didn't read th entire article... merely skimmed it. Just seemed like a lot of ass kissing to me. Did I miss something? Where are the 0-60 / 1/4 times and skidpad? They had the car for a day and couldn't test these basic things? I'm curious how this thing compares to the msp in the handling category... obviously it'll be faster but if it doesn't handle as well, my interest may be lessened.

It's not going to be quite as light on its feet, but I bet it handles very nicely. I'm guessing more Audi-ish handling versus Miata-ish handling.

An MP3 or a nicely set-up normal Proteg technically handled better than the MSP anyway. :) C&D said the MSP definitely didn't handle quite as nicely as the MP3. They also said the Mazda3, while definitely a more refined car, lost a significant fun factor compared to the standard 01-03 Proteg. I've driven one, and I agree.

Weight is the enemy, but this is going to have brutal power and the best FWD handling of any factory car on the market today. I'm sure of it. I think some (OK, a lot) of electronic trickery will be involved in getting the handling in some situations right, but I got faith in Mazda.

I was just reading the stats for a Boxster S today (my dream car). The Speed3 weighs only a 100 poinds more, has 50 ft/lb more torque, and only a dozen less HP. And those are all easily improved with (relatively) cheap bolt-ons. Sure apples to oranges, but 1/3 the price.

Now to speculate on what they're going to **** us APR and Insurance wise for owning this lil hatch. I'm hoping there will still be some available come spring for purchase, if not a second year run as they've previously alluded to.

Mazda wouldn't let them print any #'s. I'm sur ein the next week or so the officials should be up.

He's right Chico. Because this was a pre-release test, and they were the first journalists allowed to try out an MS3 on track conditions, one of the stipulations was that they could not take any measurements themsleves. This was a "feel", or seat of the pants kind of test only. Everything they published were factory numbers, but they state that their pants told them that they were on par.
As they also state, when Mazda releases the car to the general auto press they will be allowed to take their own readings, etc, as usual.

Car and Driver tested a 0-60 of 5.3 seconds!

I recieved my October Issue of Car and Driver magazine today (really early for some reason). They had a 1 page 'preview' of the MS3 and stated that they tested a 0-60 of 5.3 seconds and a quarter mile of only 13.9 seconds. Pretty crazy for a FWD car.

Well here it is folks, here are some specs and prices for you on the Mazdaspeed3. The actual power has not been released on the USDM version even to the employees of Mazda, its only listed as 250+

I may have missed this detail, but is the MS3 available with a sunroof? Or did they pull it to improve structural rigidity?

Moonroof unavailable because of structural rigidity reasons (and this applies to all markets).

I'm ready to wait 2 years for this puppy. I like my sunroof a lot.... plus the Protege's two months from paid paid off. I could budget turbo the Protege and the Miata for what a year's payment would be on the MS3, even after selling the Protege. I'm going to sit tight for now. :) I'll test drive one though if there are any left on the lot here.

Antonio, is it possible for you to make those spec sheets bigger, or give us a link? For my aging eyes, those last two pages are nearly impossible to read.

Actually ClunBB9 originally posted those docs. Sorry :)

Yeah I was very excited about the MS3. Since there is no sunroof, I'm less excited. I guess I figured since the MS6 had a sunroof, the MS3 would have one as well. I also think the 4 door is sexier than the 5 door. Oh well. I'll still test drive one. And maybe it will win me over. :)

How many covers have you aquired?

I thought there were a couple others. In fact I thought I had a couple others, but can't seem to find them now. My wife "puts things away" never to be seen or heard from again. I know Road & Track did an article but no in-house numbers. I believe it was also a pre-release article, iirc?
Anyone have any others to post?
