Guide: How To Disable Daytime Running Lights (instructions)

They don't turn off until you turn the knob to park. Then back to auto, and they will turn on again when you cross a few mph.

If they changed this for 2024, then that's great. I assumed the new Miata lights are unique to the platform and that functionality wouldn't carry over to the other models. 2024 is a refresh for the MX-5 with new lights. The CX-5 already got its update in 2022 so I don't think anything is changing until the 2026/2027 model arrives.
You are saying when you stop at a red light the DRL's turn off and then back on again when you move again? That is a very strange feature to me. I get them turning off when the turn signal is activated.

Yep. In Auto mode.

I just don't understand the purpose of it. Why would they bother? I get it if the car is in park as it won't be moving. Is this for an MX-5 with a manual transmission?

It's the first time I've heard of it on a CX-5. The only thing these cars have in common outside of being made in Hofu, is that they are 2024 models.
