MS3 buying questions. Please help.

BillTheCat: I was hoping you would chime in. I have seen your sig in a few other threads and thought you would have a good perspective on the situation. I too have spent a lot of time and money modding the MINI, and I agree I would not feel as compelled to do all the speed mods to the MS3. Now suspension, and some styling work definitely. Also I have never been a fan of the R56 or R55 so those have never been an option. I don't care for the direction MINI is going with their design. The new SUV looks horrible!

No problem at all. When I saw an MCS owner with questions, I figured I could provide similar perspective. If you have any questions about specifics, feel free to PM me, too.

And yeah, the R55/R56 do not appeal to me. The Clubman was bad enough, but the SUV in the works? I guess they must be done making fun of Hummers & the like, huh?

I edited up one of the first photos of the R56 interior when they were released, to sum up my feelings on the "improvements."

Just was looking at JCW Mini coopers. Damn, They start at $31,450 for the Clubman.

I have 3 other siblings, 3 of us over 6 ft and we fit just fine in my Speed3. Just finished a trip out to Kansas last month, and no one complained about legs cramps on the trip. I also regularly carry 6 + boxes 2 ft square for work with no problems.

Jason, I'm selling my car because Im in college and I want to get in a cheaper car payment. I love the car, love the performance, love how nice it is, but I dont like having to work as much as I do to pay for it.

So what do you all think about the price? 08'GT, 10K miles, 22K.
Thoughts?

I think that's an OK place to start negotiating DOWN from. Or they're smoking crack if they think the car's resale value is that solid. It's a 1.5 year old vehicle that sold for about $24k list, and while it has slightly low miles for its age, it is still used. I haven't looked at any of the used car value sites like KBB, but I would imagine paying somwehere closer to $18-19k for that car in the real world, depending on condition. Someone here with more intimate knowledge of the resale on MS3's may have a more informed opinion, but that's my $.02.

With the economy where it is, some argue that new car sales will suffer & used cars will gain value. Right now, though, the economy hasn't been in the crapper long enough for new car buyers to resort to buying used- they are hanging onto the cars they have, which is making new AND used car sales suffer.

You should be able to get a much better deal in Dallas than that. I'm in the same area and just bought an '07 GT with 13,600 miles on it for $16,700 and I still think I could have done a little better.

Thanks everyone. The problem I'm having is I want an 08.5 at least white GT.
I'm having a hard time finding used ones around here much less one that fits my spec.(dunno) I'm on Craig's List, Auto Trader and Cars.com everyday but still nothing. I guess I'll just keep waiting and searching.
