yeah so i brought the speed to mazda bc when i shut the car off the belt squeeks so of course when it was there it didnt make the noise so they told me they would replace the pulley, belt tensioner and belt bc they "have had problems with all the speeds belts, and tensioners" so the mechanic told me. so i said fine. brought it back to have the belt and tensioner installed and they dont hear the sound of course sooo they tell me that the mechanic i talked to before informed me wrong and they havent had problems with the belts on the speeds and they dont wanna install a part that they are not sure will fix the problem. i can understand that. but its a sat and they want to keep my baby on the lot til today to see if they can hear the sound. i said as long as you give me a rental im cool just dont beat the dick out of my car. and the mechanic smiled. yeah, he probably launched the hell of it. anyways the point of the story is i hate this rental bc it smells like smoke and ass and i want my car back!

I have the same problem, sometimes when turning the car off the belt(s) make an annoying squeaking sound. Sometimes I hear it chattering when idle also, usually in a drive-thru as the sound will echo off the building and I can hear it. I took it to the dealership also and of course it wouldn't do it. I drive by the dealership on the way home everyday so when it bugs me enough I'll try and get them to hear it again.

Mine makes that sound but its the AC kicking on at idle, thats all. All cars do that but maybe you are hearing something different. Does it happen with the AC off?

Yes, A/C is off. I know what the compressor sounds like. And my car actually doesn't make any belt noise when the A/C cycles, I just hear the RPM go up slightly.

Yeah that sux then. I hear the clunk from the clutch that kicks on the AC but thats about it.

yeah thats the same times i heard except i never heard it while driving or while idling... i got the car back yesterday, mazda finally heard the noise and changed out the belt, belt tensioner and pulley... havent heard the sound as of yet but we'll see... 1

I have that same squeek and it is annoying as f**k!!

I was just about to post about this but wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem. Not to be a dick but it's always kinda a good feeling to see someone else is having the same problem, better chance that it will get fixed, for one.

But yeah, after my car warms up, I can hear this squeek under a few different circumstances. First is when I shut it off, for the brief split second that the engine still rotates after cutting the ignition, it will make that sound. Also, if I'm stopped at a light or whatever (or at a drivethru, like someone mentioned the sound will echo off the wall), I put the car in gear and start to let the clutch out, it will squeek then too.

I didn't know if this was a belt... I wouldn't think so just by the sound and times that it happens. But I guess it's possible. It seems to have to do with the engine moving, like as the engine kicks over after shutting down, the engine rocks a bit. Also when you are loading the engine when first engaging the clutch, the engine moves a bit.

It doesn't seem to do it with the hood open.

But I dunno... I will bring this up at the dealer when I bring it in for the tranny mount recall.
