MS3 6 speed in 2007 MZ3?

My 2007 mz3 has a crunchy 3rd gear. If I decide to just swap it out, does a ms3 6 speed work without any mods, or am I being stupid to ask? (I'm not really stupid, Mazda owner/autocrosser since 1993!)

Which 6-speed? There was a 6-speed in the Mazdaspeed 3, which might fit because the engines are related, but the 6-speed SkyActiv transmission (2012-2013 GS and all 2014 and later) probably only easily works with the Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine... just a guess, or a factor to consider.

The one from the Speed3 will involves having to swap out a ton of other stuff like axles, clutch, flywheel, among other things. It really wouldnt make any sense.

Using a 6 speed trans from the NA MZR's would make ALOT more sense as those share clutch, flywheel, axles, starter, slave cyl and so on. So it would pretty much be a direct swap. The only thing you would have to worry about other then getting the 6 speed trans, is getting the matching 6 speed cables, and shift assembly.
