MS CAI for MS3 just installed...

Good info, that's what I was looking for.

Seems strange that Mazda would put such a restrictive crappy stock airbox on a performance-based vehicle such as the MS3...

By decrease you mean from what you first notice when you install, not lower than stock :)

I read somewhere there may be a ecu reflash that will help reduce the black buildup on your exhaust tip. It is only a cosmetic problem. There is a celica in the lot where I live that has half of the bumper covered in black, I would say we have it pretty good compared to that guy :)

The black build up means the car is running rich, is not just a cosmetic problem, if you get it tune to a more turbo friendly a/f ratio (around 12.0) you would get a performance gain.

Hey fellow Speed3ers whats up? I just installed my MS CAI. WOW u can hear the stock BOV working and turbo spool. The car sounds really different. It is It seems like it spools harder in 4th gear. Havent used 5th or 6th yet. Following the instructions to a tee, I disconnected the battery, so the ECU has been reset. So I think it has to relearn itself.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. :)

Wait about a week and you will really be impressed. It takes mine a good 5-7 days then you really start to hear some sweetness from both the turbo and exhaust. Not only that it will be noticably more responsive and feel like you have more power after the ECU is all settled down.

Time to hit up hubby and ask if you are allowed to.

Man does that seem back asswards.

Oh no I would not have to do that....he wants one already. But he just spent money on a Xbox 360 on Friday. So unless someone buys me one for my Bday next week I guess i will be waiting again.

LOL, sounds like someone is fishing for a CAI next week.

I promise you will love your CAI and never think of the cost after you hear/feel what difference it makes. It really is the way the car should have been from the get go. Whats amazing is just how much they choked the engine with that stock air box set up. The stock box really did not complement the mandrel bent exhaust and power out put this car is set up for.

No fishing. I know I will not get one. Not unless the 4 people that I know by me gifts put their money together...which is not going to happen. :) Oh well. Just have to save up and hopefully snag one in July. I have hear nothing but good things about the CAI. I can not wait.

Hey whitey4311 whats up? So did u disconnect the battery prior to your CAI install? And did u notice a big diference in power after your ECU relearned itself? And how and when did u know the ECUwas back up to speed again?

Yes I disconnected the battery during the install and there was a significat difference in a weeks time after the ECU was where it needs to be. I confirmed this again by pulling the battery yet one other time to give the motor mount bolt a look over. Again it took about a week before I really started to hear some sweet sounds from the exhaust and felt a more snappy feel to the throttle.

You will know when your ECU is at its sweet spot and it should really be more then about a week to notice this.
