MPG's

Have 1200 miles on my Mazda 2 in 2-1/2 weeks now. Have been seeing 36.5 at 60% Highway / 40% city & 33.5 when mostly city driving. Looking forward to a bit of a roadtrip to see what I get on pure highway driving.

At what speed/rpm on the highway?

I'm greately dissapointed in my car's fuel milage. Had it for 3 weeks, over 2000km, and the best I'm getting is 7.5L/100km (31-32mpg). I'm doing mixed driving, maybe 60% hwy. I always shift at 3,500-4,000 rpm, and upshift whenever cruising for lower rpms. I've gotten great mileage out of my old Mazda6 this way.

The only variable I can think of is my roof rack w/bike mounts, but I can't imagine it having such a huge impact.

Can this be a matter of the engine breaking in? Or is something really wrong?

4 fillups 39.5mpg 1st tank, 35 2nd , 33 3rd, 34.8 4th

I managed 34.8mpg driving like an ABSOLUTE retard, and that also involves me running the car for AC on my lunch brakes. This data tells me I should be able to hit the 40 mark if I drive like my dad and not use it as a breakroom.

This made me laugh.

I've got some buddys that swear a roof rack has dropped their MPG by 1-3. I have no data to back this, just word of mouth.

After my second fill up after the K&N install I hit 38.5 mpg on both tanks. That's just a touch higher than I'd been averaging in the summer (was about 36 unless driving for therapy), but no higher than I'd hit fairly regularly in the non-AC seasons.

Ran an autocross even (hard driving) 5 laps, managed 34.5mpg on the tank (fillup used 8.1 gallons).

Mine's been steadily going up since I bought the car about a month and a half ago. Last tank was 38.4MPG, previous was about 36MPG. Just changed the oil with synthetic so we'll see if that makes a difference at all.

They come with full synthetic in them, 0w20. Not sure if some of the synthetics are better for fuel economy than Mazda's, but I never noticed a difference when switching over to Mobile1

37mpg the first 2 tanks and just over 40mpg on the third tank. 90% highway with A/C constant since it's over 100 degrees. This is on the stick usually running 65-70mph. I knew it could pull 40mpgs based on Fuelly's website reports.

I calculated my mpg's myself and found that I am getting 33.6 mpg's. Not bad for SoCal in the traffic and the heat. My a/c has been on for well over 50% of the tank that I calculated. Most of my driving is on surface streets too....

I've been getting about 34 mpg every tank recently. I've been using the heck out of the A/C, and on my last tank I added a roof rack. My current tank isn't looking so great, but I'll see how it pans out and report back if I have a huge drop. But for the time being, I'll gladly accept 34 mpg with A/C and a roof rack.

42.6 on my 25 mile commute this morning.

1st\3rd\5th shifting, windows up, no AC, 55 on hwy, 66 on interstate, no passing or hard acceleration...mind you I cant drive like this everyday...it hurts my pride...but I did it..finally broke 40mpg.

Damn! That's really good. I'm gonna have to give that the old college try..... at least for 25 miles....

Is that what the trip computer calculated, or did you get gas before and after? I've seen my trip computer calculate numbers in the 42-43mpg range if I reset it while cruising down the freeway...but after a couple days it's back down to the 38-39mpg range.

completely reset, drove similar style but worse traffic back home and still managed an avg of 41...my findings are the onboard calculator is accurate if not barely under-rated. Keep in mind im not driving this way on a whole tank...it was just a test to see what was possible if I had no testosterone.

Hello, I recently went 385 miles using 8.4 gallons for mpg of 45.8....This was with 3 people plus a filled cooler with a mixture of 90/10 highway/ town......The highway was at 70mph..........The lowest I have gotten was 40.5 mpg.....5 speed with now 5000 miles on......I use 1st gear to get going them upshift at 4000 rpms or so thru the gears until proper spped or 70 mph , whichever comes first......Ive yet to go beyond 5000 rpms.....Its a fine engine with a nice body being lithe, agile & responsive.
