Ran into an old friend of mine today, he has a civic, not sure what year but its not the most recent generation. Engine is a D16Y8 with intake and exhaust, his car actually pulled pretty well in my opinion but we werent really racing so i wasnt going all out, just wondering who would win in a race, his civic w/ mods or my p5 with sri and rb catback?

if you have a manual trans your car should be faster.
the D16 is weaksauce, even when turbocharged they just start to scrape 15 second 1/4 mile times.

I wouldn't try it because I've been smoked by too many Civics out there on my stock P5. Especially this one:

Those Civics better watch out because my Mazdaspeed 3 is coming soon.

That civic with I/H/E and a decent driver would be in the 15.7 ish 1/4 mile range. I had one...

actually with a turbo they can be alot more potent than 15's. i know 3 people locally who have all had it or have a turbo d16. the best time so far by one of my friends is 13.60 @ 103. thats with a stock motor and greddy bolt on turbokit @ 9psi street tuned running afc with other supporting mods (exhaust, clutch etc). but the others are no slower than low 14's

But with similar mods i say its a drivers race. i raced a 95 si (d16z6 we were both stock) and i pulled him no problem through the low rpm's but he got me in the high end. The civic prob only weighed 2300 or so, so p5's are a little overweight! But once we get into a corner... thats another story:)

I love it when I pull up next to civics (a lot of them in NJ/NY area). take off, the P5 is quick, then power seems to drop a little in first gear as revs get higher (I have an auto). in turns and traffic, P5 pwns civic. not too sure about straight lines (might be the same)

(peep the siggy)

Ive never raced anyone...I doubt stock P5's could be anyone...I like looking fast muahahaha

i believe the y8 engine is the single cam VTEC engine, and the y7 is the non-vtec engine. the y7 is only rated at 106hp or something like that, and the y8 is around 120-ish, stock. the y8 with intake-header-exhaust would probably be the same as a pro5 with only intake and exhaust. while the civic doesn't really have a high torque rating, they make up for it in lightness and rpm's. the y8 will run up to 7500? before the revlimiter kicks it, and the civic run a couple hundred puond lighter that the pro5.

if both were stock, i'd give the pro5 the nod, but not by much. with the mods, my money's on the civic. sorry.

fyi - my wife's car is a civic lx with the y7 engine. it has an exhaust, and thats it, and it feels more sprightly than my car with intake-header-exhaust. (i don't think its faster, but light wieght ownz joo!!!)

stock vs stock the p5 SHOULD win, i have a buddy that had a d16 civic with intake and exhaust, and he BARELY beat me, and....obviously anything outside of street light to street light he got utterly *****.

P5....I owned a 01 d series with the vtec....124hp at the crank...I had it lowered with intake and exhaust and it was soooo ****** slow that anything else on the road owned me....It was the absolute worst and slowest car ive ever driven and I will never buy a honda again.

I kill d series all the time in my p5...I just have a few bolt ons...I out run hatchs and coupes...I outrun a stock 08 the other day...Just don't f*** with si...Done been beat by 1 lol
