MP3 / Mazdaspeed Protege Conversion Guide

I haven't really seen the 03.5 bumper up close to really study the lip but I noticed that 03.5 bumper has a tracing/ridge around the "foglight holes". Is that part of the separate lip/air dam? It seems that 03.5 bumper is different than the MP3 in that way also.

the ONLY difference between the mp3 and msp bumpers is the lip on the 3.5 msp. the lip is what changes the foglight holes and wraps around the sides.

how did i forget about your white conversion?!? Looks really well done shorebroke, did you get new splash shields or are they not needed that bad?

nope, i still got the LX splash shields. Sadly, the holes in the bumper didn't line up with the holes in the splash shield, so the clips were useless. So i used the next best thing, cable ties. As for water and such going in the engine bay.......i live in Hawaii on the windward side where it rains a lot, and i haven't noticed any problems with it yet.

If you have the money, you could go to the dealership, and use the part numbers listed on the first page of this thread, and pick up most of the stuff. Many things though are being sold used on forums here, so keep checking the for sale threads.

Or if you have time, check out your local junkyards, and see if they have anything. Good Luck.

AWESOME!

are you gonna be getting fog light or fog grills?
thanks! fog lights in the future, i asked the body shop leave the harnesses in place.

quick questions to anyone, is an air deflector important in the conversion? its on the part list and the ES had an air deflector. its not the same as the "wind splitter" which i think is more visual than functional. its the piece numbered 21 on the attached pic. thanks.

I got my msp bumper reinforcement. Could I install the msp bumper reinforcement and put my ES front bumper cover on until my msp bumper is finished getting painted?

I'm more than sure that your ES bumper will fit, because the MSP bumper reinforcement is supposed to be smaller than the ES one.

Well, i had to cut my LX Bumper Reinforcment to make the MSP bumper fit, so i'm just assuming things. But i'm pretty positive that it will fit.

Hmmm... There is a styrofoam piece on that bumper that matches exactly to the MSP front bumper so I dont know if that will interfere with things, and you wouldnt want to crush it.

But Shorebroke brings up an interesting point, I always thought that the MSP bumper stuck out further than the LX bumper. It always looked that way, but hey, looks can be decieving.

is the front bumper cover the "actual" entire front bumper? I'm looking into replacing my front bumper, is this the part number? BN7H-50-031-AA And where is the best place to purchase through?

yes it is the actual bumper. pretty sure when ordering, all protege model bumpers are the same and looks like a P5 front. The part number above is for the msp bumper and the P5 bumper is BN5V-50-031B-AA not sure what the difference is though. best place is the dealer, my p5 bumper was $180 primered..

just need a rear skirt and paint the front bumper and i be able to finally post pics in this thread...yaaay
