Hi all,
Recently purchased a Mazda3 in black mica. There must be a simple way without voiding warranty to boost the power up to the standard Mazda6 seeying its a slightly de-tuned Mazda6 2.3L engine.
Any suggestions??

Also just quickly, has anybody out there had any major mods done to their Mazda3's???
I understand theyre still under warranty and all, but any upcomming mods anyones planning??

Cheers guys and Gals

it's not detuned!

as far as i understand and have read, the 2.3 in the 6 and the 3 are both rated at the same horsepower, but the 3 has 5 less ft/lbs, thats all, thats not i would call detuned.

ZippityZoomZoom. you're new here....I'm going to say this nicely once since you don't know what you're talking about....Don't answer questions about warranty issues or legalities unless you know what you're talking about.

M/M act, while nice isn't a law by any means. Also, any dealer at any time can deny you warranty work without explaination. What are you going to do about it?

mods;

Yeah I agree, quiet is nice for some, but we need to hear a little roar/growl under the hood!!

If for the 4cyl. Mazda 6 I would think should fit ' same motor basically'

Well in Australia, the Mazda 3 2.3L is called the SP23 which says it has 115Kw of power.
They also have a lower end 2.0L
The mazda 6 which is the same engine, boasts about it being 225Kw.

thats what i meant by detuned guys

Thanks for all your replies by the way.

Voiding the warranty is much more difficult than people think.

Read up on the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act.

i'm with matty on this one. dealers suck...you basically need to find out if a specific dealer is mod friendly before you go and do anything major. there are so many people out there that are denied warranty work for a simple CAI and DV or other mild power adding options out there. the dealers assume that because someone has a CAI/DV they must have other stuff done. unfortunately the MM warranty act doesn't really do what it is intended unless you are willing to take them to court. thats just a gigantic hassle. make sure the dealer you go to is mod friendly.

its dependent on the lay out of the engine bay as well;

click the enlarged pic - in the engine bay of 6, the CAI goes into the fender like on the p5. the cars are totally different shapes and sizes, but i can call and find out for certain.

I can garantee that the CAI in the photo won't fit the 3. if u notice the TB is located near the rear of the engine bay where as the TB of the 3 is located in the front of the engine bay.. So you'll just have to wait till they make one for the 3.

Well, Turbo Matty P, I didn't see you post a definitive answer either. I am sorry if I didn't notice your law degree in your signature. (laugh) I posted some information and maybe a tool to use when dealing with a reluctant dealership/repair place; not any legal advice.

I have dealt with dealers and aftermarket products. If there are any questions I usually mention M/M and ask them to clearly state why my lowering springs would effect a faulty sunroof (for example) and that is usually as far as it goes and I get warranty service.

Time served at one forum does not an expert make. If I were to have 10K posts would that give me an honorary degree or knighthood?

If anyone is daring, he/she can make one's own cold air intake from painted metal intake piping, hose clamps and K&N look alike. I may do that this weekend..will post up pics if I do so. If you want the bling bling, one can always powder-coat for another 25-35 bucks.

I did the intake on my Camaro without the powder-coat and cost me 40 bucks.

yes the m/m isn't a law where the dealer will do backflips, but if pressed on the issue allot of dealers will back down on the issue if u know what your talking about. if u don't know what your doing the dealer will send u on your way.

what one dealer denies as a warrantee claim, another dealer will take it in and fix it under warranty. i went to one dealer about a paint blemish, he wanted 65$ to fix a couple of dents i didn't notice in the roof near the blemish, so i went to another dealer, and he fixed the blemish, both small dents and even painted my door handles and side mirrors all under warrantee. allot of dealers will do this to get your business.
