Miracle for fuel economy?

Well update... My blazer usually gets about 250 miles max on a tank... I'm at about 150 and i'm not to the half way mark... but it's not THAT good.. the last half of the tank usually goes very quickly... typically is less than 100 miles... but normally at a half tank I make it to about 160 miles.. I'll easily surpass that this time.. I've also done more city driving.. and intentionally beat on the truck to make sure I get "poorer" gas mileage if anything... looks promising.

You mean kilometerage, right? (thumb)

My non-acetone tank took me back down from 360miles to 330miles before I had to fill-up. Going back to acetone for good.

Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean brother! LOL!

So you fill up with gas and then when you get home you add the acetone to your tank, right?

Well, I just added acetone for the first time to my car last night. I filled my tank as I left work, ran around town (drove 33 miles), and so I topped off the tank again a half mile from my house.

Then when I got home, I added around 2oz of acetone to the tank.

I fill up about 1/2 mile from my house then go home and add the acetone. Then I drive around and thoroughly mix it up for piece of mind. I think I'm going to start pre-mixing acentone in a 1 gallon can and use that to top off the tank.

End of 1st tank results = 420 km with the empty light on vs previous kilometreage of about 340 km with empty light on. Once the manifold is fixed I hope to break 450 km or so.

Wow! You must have a really heavy foot.

Ok, here's some numbers. I'll go metric but it'll give you a good idea of my results so far.

I've kept ALL my gas receipts (about 80) since I bought the car (it had 8 Km on the Odo), so to keep track of fuel consumption and costs. I added all the quantities up and compared it with what my Odo says right now. To be sure, I added a full tank in case I was missing a couple of receipts. So my average has been 12L/100Km (19.6 Miles per Gallon). I'm quite confident that those are the good numbers. It has been only since this summer that I started to be careful and changed my driving style a bit. Usually, I stomp on gas whenever I can. I try not to speed too much but I love the acceleration. Around 60-65% is city driving with lots of traffic jams.

The last tank with Acetone was done this way, i.e. not caring much about fuel savings and I averaged around 11L/100Km. So we are talking of only 9% improvement. But I was really pushing hard, in the past with this driving style I've got 14, even 15L/100Km (on "spot checks"). So I averaged out all the tanks (less than 3 to be honest) done using Acetone and came up with a 10L/100Km average fuel consuption. I'll keep monitoring this and we'll see if this gets confirmed.

Now, the diff. btw 12L/100Km and 10L/100Km is 17%! I was surprised cus this was excactly my very firsts findings after my first tank. To be on the conservative side let's say 15%. That's not bad at all giving today's gas prices! :) I figured that I would save this way over 400$ (CAD) on around 15 000 Miles (with 15%).

My next experiment will probably be using Acetone with regular gas! I know this might be crazy but I only boost 5-5.5 psi (stock) and by mistake I've put regular in a few times in the past (mostly in the beginning) and my engine didn't blew up!. I want to do a bit more research before, although it seems that regular (87 octane) burns like 91 octane gas with Acetone. That would be an extra $160 bux on the mileage above. We'll see... I don't want to compromise performance though.

So that's it!

be careful putting regular in, especially since you like to stomp on it. I would probably invest in a J&S safeguard to be safe before i tried something like that...
I don't really see how acetone can affect the octane index of a fuel.

The risk of detonation is the big issue.. if you NEVER touched boost at all... then you MIGHT be ok... but without something like the JandS to tell you if you are getting real light detonation that you can't hear and so forth it's not really worth the risk of a need for a new motor!

Neither my buddy with a 2002 ranger or myself saw any gains.

It could be that its from the gas in our area now has winterizing additives to keep it from freezing. Thats a hypothesis at best.

same here... 2 full tanks later and I'm still averaging the same exact gas mileage I've always averaged... 27mpg

(insert scratching head guy here)

Add me to the list of lab rats for this test too. Just put 4 oz. to 13 gallons. I guess I'll know within a week.

did the test myself on my 92 hyndai, saw no difference in miles, will try it again in a week

I may be wrong, but it seems the hightest gains are seen on cars running premium. I wonder if there's some correlation?

I was thinking it could be on older cars that have had to develope carbon desposits where as mine only has 5000 miles.

Or that it could be from the winterizing agents that are added to gas up here now.

Flying, where are you?
