Millenia, large Mazda?

Hey Moderators if this should be "off topic" then move me over there...

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a Millenia replacement or any other Mazda's in the pipeline bigger than a 6?

My wife drives a Millenia that we love and it's a shame they didn't market them better. I just drove it to and from Dallas this weekend (over 500 miles for you non-Texans) and the Millenia ia the smoothest car I've ever driven. Is Mazda ever going to move back into the larger vehicle segment?

Not really, though in some specific areas like height.

Millenia is longer overall (191.6 vs. 186.8) and a longer wheelbase (108.3 vs. 105.3) which gives it a different feel and look. Interior dimensions are pretty close overall. But I guess I see a very different idea between the cars.

The Millenia and the 626 weren't THAT much different in size either but the overall feel is way different. I haven't driven a 6 but imagine it's closer to a muscled up 626 than to a Millenia. The Millenia was intended to compete against Volvos and Lexuses, and it was discontinued because it never reached that mark in the consumer's mind. If I read the 6 marketing campaign right it's supposed to compete against Accords and Camrys and MAYBE a 3 series Bimmer. Yes? No?

I remember reading some where (sorry, don't remember where, but it was on line I believe) that at some point it will be called the Mazda 9 ... but that all I'm sure of ...

:confused:

The Millenia (Xedos 6) was part of Mazda's aborted attempt at a luxury marque (a la Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus). It was supposed to be the first car of the Amati line. I think (but I'm not sure) that Ford axed it due to the costs. That's why the Millenia never had a real home. A shame, because it was a very nice car. If they'd offered it in a manual and upped the output of the Miller Cycle 6, I'd have been all over it.
As for the size issue, I guess I was going off interior impression. Although physically the Millenia is larger, it feels about the same size as a Protege inside. The 6 has much better interior space utilization. This is mostly probably due to the increased head room in the 6. Here are the numbers:
Mazda Millenia:
Front Head Room: 37.9 in. Front Shoulder Room: 55.1 in.
Rear Head Room: 36.5 in. Rear Shoulder Room: 54.2 in.
Front Leg Room: 43.3 in. Rear Leg Room: 34.1 in.
Luggage Capacity: 13.3 cu. ft. Maximum Cargo Capacity: 13 cu. ft.

Mazda 6:
Front Head Room: 38.7 in. Front Hip Room: 54.7 in.
Front Shoulder Room: 56.1 in. Rear Head Room: 37.1 in.
Rear Shoulder Room: 54.9 in. Rear Hip Room: 54.1 in.
Front Leg Room: 42.3 in. Rear Leg Room: 36.5 in.
Luggage Capacity: 15.2 cu. ft. Maximum Cargo Capacity: 15 cu. ft

didnt the millenia have a miller cycle engine...i dont remember how it worked but i know it relied on a supercharger to work

Just for the record, the Millenia is classified as a 'compact' by interior volume. The 626 and the new 6 are both 'mid size'. The last big car from Mazda was the RWD 929, which was one nice car.

You all got a ton of qustions here! Just let the "Expert" vent for a moment!
First of all, the Mazda 6 took the place of both the 626 and Millenia!
As far as the Millenia vs the 6 in size, the dimensions of the Millenia were larger than that of the 6 but the 6 was improved to create both luxury and sport!
Yes, there has been a rumor about a Mazda 9 but that is looking way into the future!
Now, as far as the Miller cycle engine, yes there was a Miller Cycle Engine available for the Millenia but it was only available in the "S-Model"! Yes, it was supercharged but was a hella lot better than the base engine! Created few more ponies under the hood!

yep, Millenia recieved the KL-ZE/M. a derivitive of the v-6 found in Probes and mx6's. also can be found in the suzuki Grand Vitara.

Sorry to dredge this up, but the Millenia is NOT a Xedos 6. The Millenia was the Xedos 9 in Europe and the Eunos 800M in Japan/Asia/Australia/New Zealand.
The Xedos 6 was a sub 626 sized luxury car, also called the Eunos 500 in other markets. Pics of a Eunos 500 (my wifes) here;

also try here for more Xedos 6 info;

Sorry again for posting on an old topic, but I cannot let misinformation slip by.

BTW, my car is a Eunos 800M, great car and the Miller Cycle engine is a dream.

Mazda_03_ES got it right. think of it this way
6i = 626
6s = millenia

Wow! I just gotta keep at you guys.
The Xedos 9 is not a SUV. It is the Eunos 800M, 800, Millenia.
More proof?
Have a look at this actual published Road Test. Even mentions the Miller Cycle Engine.

And now, a car showroom/sales place

Some owner reviews

Yet more overviews, again the Miller Cycle is mentioned

Still waiting to see pics of the Xedos 9 SUV!

Hey Pursya, before you start trying to make people look stupid, read the posts. Although the Mazda 9 is mentioned, it is pointed out that it is going to be an SUV, but noone is calling the Xedos 9 an SUV.

does anybody here know how many litre engine and HP millenia has?
